Draco's p.o.v
He was irrevocably, stupidly, ridiculously late.
And even though he could definitely get away with blaming his mother for the entire thing, he wouldn't, because she hadn't made him visit his father over the summer, and she had been nothing but good to him, if not a little cautious.
When he finally reached the great hall, ignoring the pointed look a teacher he didn't care about shot him, he was more than ready to go to bed. But that would mean missing the entire thing... and even he didn't want to be on McGonagall's shit list on the first day back.
So instead of going straight to his room, a choice he would regret later, Draco pushed open the double doors, and walked inside.
He was genuinely surprised when not one person turned around to look at him. It wasn't that he wanted the attention, but that he was just... used to it. It made for a good change to not have every eye in the room on him the second he walked in.
Draco slipped into his seat next to Pansy, and she shot him a look that managed to combine relief, concern, annoyance, and exasperation. So nothing new there then.
He rolled his eyes, turning back to McGonagall who stood at the front of the hall, announcing the new Head Girl and boy. Of course, with his eternally shit luck, he had missed the food.
Wonderful.
He forced himself to tune back into McGonagall's talking. He glanced at Pansy again, and she gave him an encouraging smile. His stomach flipped with nerves. His mother had assured him that he would get the title of head boy, but he didn't have the heart to tell her that her reassurance was actually the thing he was most afraid of.
And then his name was being called for head boy, and he forced a smile. He leant back in his seat with a practiced arrogance, grateful that this particular mask had never been an issue for him.
Hermione Granger were the next words out of her mouth, and the fact that her name was the least surprising of the two said a lot.
Hermione's p.o.v
After dinner McGonagall led Hermione and Malfoy up to the fourth floor and in front of them hung a painting that made Hermione very emotional. She heaved a deep sigh and looked at three of the four marauders and Lily Potter standing in the painting. She turned to look at McGonagall who simply nodded at her and told them the password was 'Mischief'. Malfoy simply rolled his eyes and walked inside, leaving Hermione standing outside of the portrait. "Hello Miss Granger" said the one who looked eerily like Harry. Sirius just winked at her and gave her a little smirk. Whereas Remus had a full smile.
"How's my boy?" All three asked at once making Hermione giggle slightly. While Lily just smiled at her.
"Harry is doing wonderfully, he and I decided to make it official and performed the blood bond." Shocked and impressed looks came from the two of the three men, making Hermione laugh more.
"Remus and I did that when we were your age, which technically makes him Harry's uncle, which is what I kept telling Dumbledore and that if anything happens to us that Remus was the first place he should go but did anyone listen to me, nooooooo." said Lily, there was a little bit of resentment in her voice of the old headmaster.
Sirius and James' heads turned with shock.
"Why did you never tell us?!" They shouted at the same time, they reminded Hermione of Fred and George, she laughed and turned to Remus.
"Teddy is wonderful, a metamorphmagus, you know."
Remus nodded and smiled a sad smile, "Just like his mother."
Hermione returned the smile and told them she'd bring Harry to see them before bidding them goodnight.
As she entered the common room she noticed it's beauty. The walls were painted a deep red with silver highlights here and there. The book shelves that ran along the sides of the room were mahogany and the carpet under foot was a soft brown, giving the room a calming atmosphere. The common room contained a little kitchen and living room. The kitchen was dark marble and had everything needed for cooking. It was beautiful, Hermione instantly knew she would have to try it out before the day was up. Whereas the living room contained three emerald green love seats, a coffee table and a golden rimmed fireplace. This is where Hermione thought the red room made up for its lack of Slytherin. The pillows and throws covering the sofa were all manners of colours creating some lightness in the cosy, dark themed common room.
Following the room round with her eyes she spotted the staircase and with no sign of Malfoy downstairs she assumed those stairs had led him away from her.
The more distance the better she thought to herself. Hermione wasn't a hundred percent sure that she and Malfoy could last more than twenty four hours alone together without hexing each other or doing something slightly more drastic. Heck she wasn't even sure if they could last more than twenty four minutes alone without doing some kind of damage.
A loud bang brought Hermione out of her thoughts and her head snapped to the left as she jumped up from the edge of one of the sofas she was perched on. Her fight or flight reflexes kicked in and within seconds her wand was drawn and aimed in the direction that the loud noise had come from.
Frustration overwhelmed her as Malfoy descended the stairs with a large smirk on his face. Obviously aimed at her reaction to him slamming the bedroom door shut. Hermione let the frustration boil to anger and she wished that she could punch that stupid smirk off his bloody face. With that thought her mind took her back to third year when she actually did punch the git's smirk right off his face. Her anger calmed as she remembered the noise his nose made when her fist made contact with his sneering face.
Once again Malfoy brought Hermione back to the land of the living by clearing his throat as she realised he was about six inches away from her face.
"What on earth do you think you're doing?" Hermione asked as she felt her anger starting to bubble again.
He smirked.
"What's got your wand in a knot, Granger?" He replied elongating the first r in Granger just to get a rise out of her.
It wasn't going to work.
She would stay calm, reacting would let him know he can get to you. Hermione willed herself to keep a cool head on. She took a deep breath in and out. Made fierce eye contact with the prick and said...
"The fact that I have to share a dorm and common room with one of the slimiest gits known to man."
And with that she smirked her own smirk that could rival any Slytherin smirk and sauntered off up the stairs to find her own room leaving a rather confused Malfoy standing in the common room.
