Neelakurinji blooms wilt

21 4 4

Like the sight of blooming neelakurinjis,
Seldom have I found souls like her.
Her nimble hands drew rainbows
For my head stuck in clouds of storm.

She knew just what to say
To make it all go away.
With a swish of her wand,
Nothing ever looked bland.

Her text book jokes stay,
Never failed to make my day.

Her highway forehead shone,
Brighter than our stars.

But her clouds poured over her head.
And my paint stained fingers repent,
Drawing paler rainbows over her spent head.

I didn't know what to say
To make it go away;
To pull a rabbit from a hat,
Spell her troubles disappear.

Now, like the kurinjis,
She too has wilted.

Leaving only seeds for thoughts,
That made me chase my tail.

Leaving me at the edge of the cliff,
Hanging onto her words.

Until I realized neelakurinjis
Always bloomed under the clouds,
Dressed in the fog, wearing cold hearts.

She drew rainbows but never the sun.
She never drew away our clouds
But taught me to dance in the rain.

She painted my petals blue and grey,
Till yellows dulled and never peaked.

And now, I hold her wilted hands,
Turning brown and coarse with her,
Because neelakurinjis bloom to wilt.
