Sitting in the same chair,
Breathing the same air,
I have been waiting for you.
The phone just beside me,
The mail box closer than ever,
I wait for a word from you.
Everyday I call you,
Just to listen to the same words.
The detached, monotonous tone,
Is as close as I can get to you.
The change in your voice,
Harshly reminds me,
You have changed too.
You are no longer
the girl who wanted a kiss
before leaving for school.
No longer the girl
who had to be held
when hope seemed to be lost.
But I still wait for her,
Here in that same chair,
The phone just beside me,
The mail box closer than ever.
I wait for her,
My daughter, my only love,
In life and in death.
