Cacophony Of The White Ravens

The tree that wished to fly

"The higher you stand,
the harder you fall"

I loosened the grip of my roots,
Letting myself tumble down.
To spread my branches and glide,
To let the wind caress my vines
And lend my weight to the air.

Other branches brush against mine
Assaying to hold me to the earth
A bitter, exigent world
That wished I bloom petals
When I furnished fruits of my labour.

And so when the storm came,
I unravelled my roots.
One by one until none held me back.
I trembled with the thunders of the wind
And took a step into the air.

The gusts of the wind clinched,
Its embrace like pricking needles.
Driving the thread in a frenzy
To sew my tale into my veneer.

The wind took away its open palms;
My sorrows not its burden,
And laid me down in the mud,
Once again back to the world,
But no more a part of it.

When the blood licked the mud
And my skin chilled on the wet ground,
My thoughts drifted to how I soared,
how the wind embraced,
Filled my ears with the honeyed hopes,
And in the end, let me drown
in the mellifluous melody of peace.
