Carl leads me down the stairs, well what's left of them anyway, to meet the group. I hesitate when we reach the door.
"I don't know about this, what if they don't like me?" In fact what if they hated me, did they really want possibly the youngest boy of the group hanging around with a girl who threatened to end her life?
"Your be fine, I promise."
I promise
That's exactly what Charlie said to me before he left my life forever.
"I'll be back soon, I promise."
Carl grabs my hand and pulls me through the door. I stumble through and slam into his back. The group all look at me in awe. This was a mistake. I release my hand from Carls grip and it lands by my side. He looks at me, smiling, like he's found a new toy and he wants to show his parents.
I need to get out of here.
I start towards the door, but a voice makes me stop. "Who's this?" I turn around slowly, it seems to me that the man with the beard had asked Carl the question. I stand there awkwardly, not really knowing how to respond. Luckily, Carl does it for me.
"This is April, I found her up on the roof." He points to me and I smile, defectively. After the comment Carl had just said there's a silence in the room. All of us to stunned to say anything. "I think we should let her join the group." This broke the silence, the whole group rage in uproar. Some comments saying "SHE SHOULDN'T BE HERE, SHE'LL SLOW US DOWN" and others "SHES CARLS AGE, WE CANT LEAVE HER HERE."
"Don't worry." Carl whispers in my ear, "they always argue."
Shivers run down my spine when his lips touch my ear, I direct my next comment at him.
"It's okay, I can just leave if it's to much hassle, actually I would prefer that." Once again I start towards the door, his hand catches my wrist and he tugs me back.
"NO, no please stay, I don't want you to leave."
"Carl I've only just got here, don't get to attached to me."
He laughs and a chuckle escapes my lips as well.
"RIGHT." I'm guessing the guy with the beard wants everyone to know his next comment. "I think we should let her stay."
A couple of "WHAT?" Escape some members of the groups mouths but the others seem fine with it.
"Do you want to stay?" Carl asks me.
Do I really want to stay with these people? I don't know anything about them. I mean i know there tough since they have survived all this time. But how many people have they have killed to get this far? My answer, probably a lot.
Oh shut up, this is great, they offered you safety and supplies just take it.
True, but am I ready to stay with these people? I mean the boy is nice, but kind of annoying, and it looks like he has quite a temper on him and the others well I don't know the first thing about them. Even after all these thoughts come through my head. I still accept the offer, it will be nice to have a guy my age around.
"Yeah sure, th-that would be cool." Carl laughs and I chuckle again.
"Well now that we have that sorted out, let's camp here for the night, I mean it seems safe." The guy with the crossbow makes this suggestion and everyone agrees.
I sit down on the floor and watch everyone get out there supplies, of course I can't do anything, because I have none. Carl comes over and he sits next to me. "Why did you do this?" I ask, I mean it was an obvious question.
"I see that your broken, and I don't like seeing people who are broken, so I'm going to try and fix you."
I have no reply to his comment.
