We walk for what seems like hours until we reach a row of houses. Each one has paint peeling off it and broken windows, but there better then nothing I guess. We clear through one quickly and start to set up. I've ignored Carl for the whole of the trip here, he doesn't seem to happy with me. At first he followed me trying to gain my forgiveness but now he just occasionally stares at me and gives me the puppy dog eyes while doing so. I walk over to Rick and decide to talk about sleeping plans.
"So are we all going to take turns watching or-" he quickly interrupts me.
"Me and Daryl will say up tonight and do it, you can rest." He starts to unpack ammo and weapons, he gently lays them on the oak table.
"Are you sure?" I ask.
"Yeah, you can sleep in the blue bedroom upstairs." He finally empties the bag of weapons and then moves onto food supply's.
"But doesn't Carl have that bedroom?" I say, nothing will be worse then sharing a room with him when I'm fuming about what he's done. Sure there's two single beds but I am not going anywhere near the boy. I shake my head, not wanting to stress Rick out. "No it's okay, I'll be fine." I say to myself. "Do you want me to take Judith, I mean so you can finish doing the supply's?" I try and get on Ricks good side. I can already see he's stressed out and I don't want to be the one to push him over the edge.
"Yeah that would be great." I nod quickly and walk away. My dark red checkered shirt hangs off me, I guess it's better to have something baggy then something tight I think. Judith lay crying in her cot, I rock it back and forth trying to ease her but it doesn't work. I gently lift her up and position her so that her head is resting on my shoulder. Daryl walks past and glares at me, I'm guessing we are back to doing this again. I knew everything that happened today was just a fluke, he still doesn't like me. "Hey!" I shout over to him, he turns around slowly then crosses his arms and glares at me, clearly wanting me to not talk to him. "Thanks for -um helping me today." I stutter, the hardness of his expression softens slightly and he forms a small smile.
"Naw it's okay, you could of done it by yourself." I laugh and nod my head in gratitude. He walks into the kitchen leaving me alone in the room. The stars start to come out and I walk over to the window and point at them,
"look Judith, their almost as pretty as you." I hear her gurgle something and I smile. Taking her off my shoulder, I gently lie her back in her crib. I then collect a can of beans from the kitchen and make my way to my room. Carl stands there unpacking. He looks at me in shock as I come in. Ignoring his gaze, I make my way over to my bed which has a plain white sheet thrown over it and a few couch pillows. I start to unpack my bag, which Daryl found lying outside the church door. Stroke of luck I know. Finding a can opener i start to open the beans, I try and find the urge to be hungry but I'm not. As soon as the can opens I take a couple of spoonfuls then walk over to Carl and hand it to him. He looks up at me confused, I finally decide to break the silence between us, yes I'm still angry at him but I can literally hear his stomach grumbling, this boy needs to eat.
"For me?" He asks, I nod, he takes the can, suspicion in his eyes. "Don't you need it?"
I sigh, "I can literally hear your stomach grumbling from the other side of the room," he laughs, "eat it and don't complain." I walk back to my bed and find a watch in my bag, it says it's 10:00pm. My eyes feel heavy and I start to drift off so I decide to go to bed. Pulling my red shirt off I fold it and put it in my bag. My baggy black t shirt hangs off me. Normally I would sleep in my bra and pants, but since Carls here i don't want to. Folding the covers back I get in and turn and face the wall.
"What are you doing?" Carl asks, I sigh.
"Um having a riot," Carl laughs at my joke, I miss that laugh so much, I need Carl, I need him back.
