Val's POV
2 weeks since Jace left. 2 weeks of both Alec and I lashing out in anger because we can't find him. 2 weeks since Jocelyn was woken from her coma and me avoiding her. The only thing that came out of the 2 weeks of Jace being gone was Clary and I started to get to know each other. I still was ready to refer to her as my sister. The day after Jocelyn had been awakened from her coma, Clary apologized for trying to push me to see her, and for once I didn't make her work to earn my forgiveness. I told her about mine and Jace's childhood as we both worked on her training.
"What was your twin like?" Clary asked me.
"I don't remember." I tell her. "I remember he had red hair too, but that's all."
I look over and see Jocelyn standing by the door watching us. "You also taught Jace?" She asked me as she managed to hit the side I left unprotected.
"Yeah. When we first came here. I didn't exactly trust Hodge and therefore, I trained Jace alone. The Lightwoods and Hodge would always watch us. I lost count of the number of times Jace and I had to stay in the Infirmary after training." I tell her. "When we were growing up, Mich... Valentine would always push us when he was there. See which one of us would best the other. We learned to be strong and fierce and..."
"That love was to destroy." She finished.
"Yeah. I think it was about 2 months before we let the Lightwoods in. For the first time in 13 years I felt a mother's love." I say. "That's enough for today. Go shower." I add. She hands me the bow staff and walks away only to realize why I ended training five minutes early. She quickly walked away and walked past Jocelyn.
"Valkyrie can I talk to you?" Jocelyn asked as I put the staffs back up.
"Are you finally gonna answer my questions, or just apologize and hope I'll forgive you?" I fire the question at her with venom laced in my voice. She was silent. "That's what I thought."
I start to make my way out of the room only to be stopped by her grabbing my arm. "Valkyrie, please."
"Begging makes you weak, Jocelyn Morgenstern." I snapped at her. "Let go of my arm."
"I have more experience than you in fighting." She says. "Now you will sit down and listen."
"Now you want to act like my mother. News flash you abandoned me and Jonathan. Your husband murdered your son and you didn't even think about taking us with you. You don't get to show up after 18 years and start acting like my mother. Maryse Lightwood raised me, not you. So if you don't want to answer my questions then I wont sit and listen to you. Now let go of my arm, so I can go find my baby brother." I glare at her. She flinches away and lets go of my arm.
"I wanted to take you with me." She finally says. "I thought it would be best if you stayed with your twin."
"Why?"
"Because you were both born with demon blood in your veins." She whispers. "Valentine adored you and I thought it would be enough so he'd never hurt you."
"He did. He tortured us. I cried out for you. We both did but you never came for us." I tell her. "He told us to endure it. That it would make us stronger. You wanna know what he called it? The perils of obedience."
"He wasn't like that when I was there." Jocelyn told me.
"But you left. And he became like that. After he took the appearance of Michael Wayland I never saw that whip again, because what was the point of using it when my twin, my other half, was dead. It wouldn't have the same effect." I tell her. "You probably saved Clary from him but you sacrificed your first two kids to him. I can't forgive you for that." I leave her standing there to mull over my words.
