Jonathan's POV
I screamed as I punched a brick wall continuously. Every single punch was out of anger. She warned me. She fucking warned me what would happen. Not once did she try to move in for the kill. After I had calmed down some I walked into my apartment.
"We need to leave." I told Valentine.
"What happened?"
"My position within the Institute was... compromised." I tell him as I grab some of my stuff.
"Where's the Mirror?" I ignored him and grabbed the Soul-Sword. Just as I was about to walk past him he grabbed my wrist, stopping me. "I said, where is it?"
"Val, and Clary, they took it from me."
"You know in all honesty, I would've figured Jace to be the only other Shadowhunter other than your twin capable of giving you a run for your money." I pulled myself free of his grip leaving the Sword with him. "It's only a matter of time before the Institute comes breaking down that door. I wonder... I wonder how they learned where you live, huh?" He sighed. "You said she protected you from a dagger, what made her turn on you so fast?"
"I... Max found a single hair and figured out that I was Jonathan. I attacked him. She warned me if he didn't make it she couldn't help me."
"She found her family within the Lightwoods. Of course she would turn on you if you attacked her siblings."
The rest of his words finally registered in my mind and I turned to face him angrily. "Okay, being discovered by the others wasn't part of my plan! But killing you was, it was."
He grabbed me by the shirt.
"Then it would seem you have issues with follow-through. Doesn't it? At least your sister did what she could to make me feel like I could never escape that blasted cell. She even came close to beating me to death. At least she would have followed through with the kill order if the Clave ordered it."
I pulled away from him.
Val's POV
I followed behind Izzy, Jace, and Clary on the way to Sebastian's apartment.
I sighed. "He would've found a way in eventually Iz." I tell the Lightwood who kept trying to keep Clary from blaming herself. "I just thought my presence would've been enough to keep him from going overboard." I whispered to myself. We eventually walked into the apartment. I stayed silent surveying the room. "He's not here." I said after Izzy shouted Jonathan's name. She sent me a questioning look. "I always feel a pull when he's near. He's not here. But I take it that that is the real Sebastian Verlac." I said pointing to the blonde haired boy whose back was turned to us."
"Where's Valentine?" Izzy asked. The boy never answered and I focused and realized there were only four heartbeats in the room.
"He's dead." I said. Clary shot me a questioning look and I sighed. "I learned to hone my senses at an early age." I walked forward and spun the chair around to see how bad Jonathan had really fallen. "Dammit." I whispered when I realized that the boy had been tortured before he was killed.
"What, did Valentine kill him?" Clary asked. I shook my head.
"Valentine's only been free for a few days. He's been dead longer than that. This was one of Jonathan's kills. We were taught to torture our victim before putting them out of their misery. That's probably the only thing I really remember when I think of Jonathan and I training."
"Ave atque vale." Jace said after he closed the real Sebastian's eyes.
"Hail and Farewell." We all whispered behind him. As the words leave our mouths the body starts shaking.
