Val's POV
Clary and Jace were trying to track Valentine the same way they did Jonathan last night. I looked up from one of the maps as they rejoined the Lightwood siblings and I.
"Anything new?" Clary asked. Before she could even tell us that the tracking failed I could see the answer in her eyes. "We tried tracking Valentine together like we did with Jonathan, but for some reason, it didn't work."
"Magnus' wards are up. Valentine must still be in the city," Jace reminded us before we could even say anything.
"He's cunning though. He'll find a way out one way or another, Jace." I remind him.
"Thank the Angel for Magnus and the warlocks." Izzy said.
"Well they didn't do it for us." Lucy reminds us, bitterly.
"Teams are out doing block-by-block sweeps throughout the city. We'll find him." Izzy adds, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. I shrugged it off and moved on to another table. I was trying to think of a way he could get through the wards without us knowing. I knew he would find a way once he realized he was trapped but I couldn't figure it out. I looked up from another map as the alarm blared.
"Aerial sensors." Alec tells us. We all converge on one screen.
"Is it Valentine?"
"No. He still wouldn't be able to get through the wards." I remind her.
"Could be some kind of Wraith demon." Izzy added. I groaned but nevertheless grabbed my bow and arrows and followed the others out the doors. When we finally stopped running we were at an intersection.
"Where is it?" Jace asked, looking around. I shared a look with Alec as we both notched an arrow.
"It should be right on top of us." Alec told him. I saw it from the corner of my eye and aimed. I didn't let the arrow fly like Alec did after he spotted it. Instead I followed it and waited for it to have a better opening than he did. When he realized what I was doing he eventually followed suit.
"What the hell is it waiting for?" Clary asked as we circled around.
"It's coming around for another pass." Alec and I said.
"Alec! Val!" Clary shouted as the demon started flying right towards us.
"Relax, we got this." We replied while a smirk played at my lips. We share one last look as we let the arrows fly. I smiled as the arrows struck the demon and it dissolved into different parts that splatter on the ground. However the smile disappears when the splattered ichor turns into more smaller demons. I ignored the mundane who got out of his car after a splatter hit his car. I saw them all start splitting up before any of us could react. We started walking the streets and killing the ones we saw. Clary was on her phone.
"At least four demons are unaccounted for. Notify all available personnel." Alec said. Clary hung up the phone and the second I saw the grim expression on her face I knew it was anything but good news.
"What's wrong? Is everything okay?" Jace asked. We all stopped walking and gave the Fairchild our full attention.
"That was Luke. Valentine's on his way to Idris." Clary told us.
"What?" The twins asked.
"How?" Izzy asked herself.
She looked at me and I saw the answer in her eyes. "That fucking bitch!"
"Who?" Lucy asked me.
"He made a deal with the Queen. Luke's warned all the other Downworld leaders." Clary replied.
