"And then .... and then he just JUMPED off the goddamn cliff like it was nothing! I'm telling you Mari, that boy is insane." Elena told her bestfriend who looked at the girls boyfriend with wide eyes.
"Charles.. no offense but umm.... are you okay?" He bursted out laughing as he put his arm around Elena's shoulder. "Yes Marianna, in fact i'm better than okay. Thanks for asking." She rolled her eyes and waved at two couples who just walked onto the beach. "Over here!"
Jeremy was the first to speak up once they reached the blanket the 3 friends were sitting on. " Hey girls, Charlie." "Aww i got my own category.. Thanks buddy!" Jer was about to wack the other boy on the head but Carolynn put her hands on Jeremy's shoulders while laughing and scooted over so Delilah and James could take their place on the blankets.
As the night progressed, the sun was about to go down which casted a beautiful sight across the ocean. All the couples huddled together and Marianna couldn't help but feel lonely (and kind of bitter, but she wasn't going to admit that.) The love was valid in all their eyes and even though she was happy for them, it did hurt.
'Ehm guys? Nothing against you or anything..... but has any of you guys heard from Isa yet? I love you all very much but i'm third... no, seventh wheeling here!"
"Oh ehm she said she had a family thing, her grandma's birthday I believe." Delilah said as she turned her head to look at her blond haired friend. Marianna sighed. "Nice...."
They all let out a chuckle. "We know you're jealous Mar." Elena started, her friend glaring at her like she could kill with her eyes. "Sorry, sorry. " she laughed, "But what i'm trying to say is: get yourself out there! Go find a boyfriend."
"Yeah because that advice worked so well last time." An awkward silence fell over the friends as Marianna finished that sentence. "Maria - "
"I'll be right back." She stood up and walked away.
And like they say .... talk about the devil and he shall appear.
Because there, at the far end of the beach, where a certain blond girl just stomped off too, stood a boy and a girl. Both looking for something, or rather, someone.
As the boy eventually saw his friends, he walked up to the spot with the blankets. His hand connected with hers. The three couples looked at eachother in confusion as he greeted them and went to sit down.
No one dared to say something.
"So Owen... Who do you got there?" Charlie asked carefully as Elena slapped his arm " What? Someone needed to ask him." Owen cleared his throat nervously." Ah, right. Sorry... Guys this is Kyara. She's ehh... she's my girlfriend."
The silence that fell after his statement was deafening. His girlfriend?! What?! Not even his bestfriends or sister knew what to say.
As the tension got thicker, Kyara started to cling onto Owen's arm, not really knowing what to do. Neither did he to be honest, he didn't think his bestfriend, let alone his sister would react the way they did.
"Oh come on guys, no need to be rude. Hi Kyara, nice to meet you." As Kyara o'Neill looked up, she saw a tall blond girl in a summerdress standing in front of her, a waterbottle and phone in her hands. The older girl was smiling down at her (a very evident fake smile at that, but only her friends knew that.)
Owen looked at her in shock. "Smith. Hi..."
"Joyner."
