The lovers were laying on opposite sides of the couch. Both of them were pretty tall (Owen being 6 feet and Marianna not far behind with 5'10) which made the space quite small.
The both of them were silently listening to music Owen had put on, not really giving too much thought to the artist.
At some point, Owen had grabbed her hand and started playing with her fingers absendly as the song hit its end notes and switched to the next one.
A song Marianna knew way too well.
Chasing cars by snow patrol.
Slowly and silently she started to sing along. Trying to make Owen not notice her sudden change in mood. The sudden urge to crawl into bed, her knees to her chest and just... lay there.
Her mind had been so far away, that she didn't notice that Owen infact had heard her. The guy had let go of her hand, staring at her with one eyebrow raised.
"You know this song?"
Silence.
"Mar? Babe? You okay?"
Owen sat up, looking at his girlfriend, now slightly worried.
Marianna did the same. Looking at him, throwing herself in his embrace.
He stroked her hair silently, now more worried since she still hadn't told him how she knew the song.
Not that it mattered.....
Okay maybe it did. He just couldn't force her to confess the meaning behind it.
"They played this song at dads funeral." She finally told him, not breaking down in any way.
"Marianna why didn't you just tell me that? Let's switch to the next one alright?"
"No."
"No? What do you mean no?"
"As i'm saying it Joyner. Just let it be alright? It's not like i'm gonna break down or anything."
She chuckled slightly after that statement. The Joyner boy just nodded and let the song play for her sake, not completely understanding how she didn't break down.
Although, he thought that every girl broke down over the most pathetic things. After all, he had grown up with none other than Elena Joyner: a major drama queen herself.
He wasn't sure if her friends, his girlfriend especially, knew how he thought about her when he talked about the specific "drama" aspect of his sisters personality.
So, he decided to say nothing, not wanting to make Marianna's "two weeks thing" come true by already starting a possible fight.
But the girl was Elena's best friend. Ofcourse she knew. She wasn't planning on saying that either though.
Let's just call it a silent, secret, mutual agreement between the two. So secret, the couple didn't even know about it themselves.
"Alright, i'll walk you home."
"Baby, i live right around the corner."
"And still, i want to."
"Well if you say so..."
Both Marianna and Owen put on their shoes and jackets and walked out the door, Marianna quickly saying goodbye to Owen's parents and sister as he opened the door for her.
She laughed as he intertwined their hands. "I still don't get why you go through all that trouble just to walk me to my house. Which takes 2 whole minutes by the way."
"If you call putting on shoes and a jacket a lot of trouble, than you don't know what real trouble is.".
"And you do?"
"Ofcourse i do. I'm an expert at this point."
"Ha ha ha, yeah. Ofcourse you are Joyner, ofcourse you are."
He gasped.
"Do you not believe me Smith?"
They came to a stop, as they reached the streetlamp across from Marianna's home.
"Is it that obvious?" She smirked.
"Yes it is."
"And what? What are you gonna do to change that?"
"Well... we do need to fix that now don't we?' He said, his voice deep.
Marianna looked around a little flustered since they were still outside.
"Owen...."
He cupped her face and slowly brought his face to hers, kissing her. She opened her mouth, letting his tounge in.
There they stood, kissing eachother under the dim light coming from the lamp that stood opposite of the Smith household.
Marianna stopped after a few minutes, seeing her boyfriend looking at her with amusement in his colored eyes.
"I'm gonna head home."
"Alright, goodnight."
He kissed her one more time, before they went their separate ways. Owen however, stopped after two steps and turned around. He watched Marianna walk to her house and waited until the lights in the house went on, letting him know she arrived safely.
That's all he wanted to do. He wanted her to come home safe. Two minutes walking or not, a lot could happen in those two minutes. Ofcourse she wasn't allowed to know. Marianna was a big girl and could easily walk (or run if she had to) the road to her house herself, but he wanted to bring her home.
And not only so he could kiss her more.
As he saw the lights turn on, he turned around once again and walked away from the light, into the darkness to his own home.
Atleast she was safe.
As Marianna came home, she got ready and got into bed, staring at the ceiling while listening to the music coming from her earphones. Mirrors by Niall Horan was currently playing and she took in all the lyrics, as she always did with her favorite songs.
Her eyes started to fall and she tried to deny the sleep as her phone started to play another song.
The same song as this night.
Even though she had told her boyfriend to leave it on, she herself immediately clicked on the next song, not in the mood to listen to it at that very moment.
Too much to ask replaced chasing cars as she finally closed her eyes, letting sleep consume her.
