The last two weeks of August were very emotional since both Dan and Marta would leave the country which was something I was still processing.
Dan and I had been together for so long that I didn't imagine how life would be without him living close to me but, at the same time, I was really happy for him, after all, he was going to one of the most prestigious colleges in the world, which was in London.
- "Maybe next year you both can come and visit me and I will also try to come here some weekends and in the Christmas so we'll see each other a lot." he told me and Gulli but I could see in his eyes that he was feeling a bit nostalgic and sad looking at us.
From that moment on, everything would be different and the three of us understood that so no one said anything because nothing needed to be said, we were brothers and would always be.
- "And now there's jut two of us." Gulli said, hugging me after we said goodbye to Dan in the airport, "I mean, he is right, we will be with him a lot."
- "I'm really happy for him but it's still weird seeing him go and not knowing when we will see him again. Well, how about you? Have you found a job yet?" Gulli had ended the course in informatics and was now looking for a job since he didn't want to do a master's degree.
- "Not yet but I have a couple of interviews this week so let's see."
A few days later, it was Marta's party, she was going to leave the next day. My best friend was going to move to another country, how was I supposed to survive without her? She was the first person I would call to a lot of things, how was I going to live without that? I was really proud of her because I always knew she was afraid of changes so doing that was a big change and she was super excited.
- "Don't you think it is strange that Marta will move away? I mean, I don't want to be rude but I never expected her to make such a big change in her life like this" Francisca said to me at the party. The truth is, I was also surprised.
- "Honestly yes, I didn't really understand how she suddenly decided she would be able to do this taking into account that she always said she was very afraid of everything. But then she told me she was going with Martim so... I guess if she's not going alone she can do it, you know, her problem was always wanting someone to do everything with her, after all." Then Francisca said what I was thinking:
- "That's exactly what worries me, that she's only going because he's going to." I was looking at Marta, she seemed very happy while talking to everyone. "And Finland? I definitely didn't expect that" Francisca added and that made me look at her.
- "Yes, I thought she would want to go to London because she has family there" I said.
- "That wouldn't be such a bad idea but this way? She will be totally depending on Martim in a country she doesn't know nothing or anyone...I'm kind of scared for her "
- "Me too Francisca, me too..." I glanced again at Marta thinking about all of this and finally I said what I thought it was right "Let's just be happy for her and hope everything goes alright"
-"And if it doesn't" I face Francisca as she said this "Don't you think you should try and talk to her, Sara? I mean you're the only one she listens to and she's preparing herself to go and live a life in which she's depending on someone anyways, till now was her parents and it was already bad but a boy? It doesn't matter how great he is, she need to wake up"
- "I know Francisca but she's in love with him and with the idea of Finland, I don't know how to talk her out of this" I made a pause looking at Marta and saw her coming in our direction but making stops in her way."We need to be her for her, whether the situation goes well or badly, but she's 21 years old, she needs to learn some things alone"
