Marta and I didn't talk again after she left Toronto. It was really weird because we never stopped talking when we had arguments, not even when we were teenagers. One day, she texted me and I was thrilled but she only asked "How's Maria?" and when I said she was fine, Marta saw but didn't answer.
Months passed and the snow came again. I loved summer but, since I had moved to Canada, I started loving winter too because the snow was amazing for me. We bought a big warm coat, gloves and a bonnet for Maria and went outside on a snowing Sunday. She was the sweetest thing I had ever seen.
We had decided to put her in the snow and see how she would react, at first she cried but then smiled and started playing with the snow. We made a small snowman, gave it to Maria and as soon as we gave it to her she destroyed it and laughed. As she had liked the snow so much, we decided to take her out to play with the snow more often and sometimes we would bring Cookie with us, he was also a snow lover. We also made little castles for her and lay her in the snow to make angels in the snow, her laugh when we made these were priceless.
Maria had started to go to the daycare in September and the first day was awful, she cried so much and leaving her there was really hard. When I got there to pick her up the young lady that was there told me that after a couple of hours she stopped crying and played with the other kids. I felt more relaxed and, as the days passed by, I noticed that she was crying less and less when I left her there. It was great to see how quickly she adapted, to be honest, I thought it would be harder for her to adapt but, at the same time, I didn't know it would be this hard to be away from her the entire day.
Maria turned 7 months old in October and Miguel received an email that same month, about promotions on some flights with a certain airline. We were used to receiving this kind of information every year at that time because that was when the airlines started the Christmas promotional campaign.
- "Look at these, Sara!" Miguel said excitedly "These promotions are really good, I bet they won't stay at this low price very long."
- "Maria just turned 7 months, she's too small for travelling."
- "Oh, come on Sara. You were the one who said you didn't want to stop living just because you were having a daughter and besides, she will be 9 months old in December."
- "You're right but I need to ask you something first; is everything okay?"
- "Yes, why do you ask?" he didn't seem to have a clue of what I was referring to.
- "You have been a little distance since the summer and the other day I heard you talking to Mateo on the phone and then you barely said a word to me all night."
- "Oh... I'm just a little tired from work and this has been a very emotional year with Maria's birth and our lives change, I guess I'm adapting to being a dad." He joked and we laughed.
- "Yes, it's true. I just don't want you to stop talking to me."
-"Babe, I could never do that, I love you. But you know what would really make me feel better? Travelling! So, how do you feel about Paris at Christmas? It's romantic 'cause we deserve it and it has snow and lights that Maria loves."
