French. The most dreaded period of the day. It wasn't the language itself that Cat didn't like. It was the class. Language teachers always tried to teach kids conjugation, and plain words, and things like that. The best way to learn a language was to teach kids how to speak it, then when they were older, fine tune it.
Cat didn't just strongly dislike french because of that. French was hard. Cat also had a bad habit of spacing out during the most important parts, then she would have no idea what they were doing, and she would have to ask the teacher. But, of course it couldn't be that easy. To tell the truth, Cat was kind of shy. And incredibly prideful. Asking a teacher for help was probably the arch enemy of being shy and prideful. If the teacher was nice, it was easier, and their french teacher was nice, which was the only reason Cat still had an A in french. it wasn't an A+, but it was still an A.
When Cat stepped into the classroom, Mrs.Millan was standing at the door, greeting students as they passed by. "Hello Cat!" She said with a smile. "Hi, Mrs.Millan." Cat said, and took a seat close to the back of the classroom. "Alright, everyone." Mrs.Millan said, as she walked to the front of the class. "Pass your homework up to the front of the class." Cat took out her homework, praising her luck for remembering to put the sheets back into her back pack when she had finished it. She passed it to Katie, who was sitting in front of her.
Once Mrs.Millan had received everyone's homework, she placed all of them into a folder labeled "Homework", and tucked it into a drawer. Then, she took out a stack if papers. "I have to go to a short meeting. I should be back in 20 to 30 minutes. While I'm gone, You'll be working on this packet. If you don't finish during class, it's homework."
She started to pass out the packets. When Cat got hers, she opened it to check how many pagers there were in the packet, (6 double sides) then went to the first question.
1. J'ai (parler) avec Mrs.Millan: Conjugate the verb in the past tence, and turn the sentence negative.
That one was easy. Cat quickly wrote down the answer, and continued reading and answering the question. The next couple question were basically the same thing as the first question. After that, there were a couple question just asking to conjugate a couple verbs in the past tense. those were even easier.
A couple minutes later, Mrs.Millan came back. She sat at her desk and started to grade their homework. At first, Cat was worried about what grade she might get, then she realized that with her parents gone, she had a lot more important things to worry about. She had been avoiding thinking about it for the entire day, but Cat knew that they had to do something. No matter how much she wanted to just leave it for the police, she knew they couldn't. Whatever had happened to their parents was dragon related, and they couldn't risk the world finding out about dragons.
While Cat had been thinking about what to do about their parents, the bell rang. It was time for the next period. Cat drifted out of the class, her mind somewhere else.
