Chapter 7

Rajae

I grinned as I waved at Carla. The small ripper was very excited. Tonight, she told me she and her class were playing games.

I hummed at how she animatedly talked and beamed at me. Carla was sweet and ever since she got here has latched onto me. I didn't know why and i didnt really mind either.

When she first came here she was quiet, reserved. The early training of the agency beginning to stick. However we managed to break that.

After saying our goodbyes she ran towards her class. It was well after 9 pm and I decided since Carla was going to her classes I might as well go and get some sleep.

I entered my room and showered. After enjoying the cold water, I got into my comfortable bed and relaxed. I drifted into unconsciousness.

Time had passed when a low pain-filled hiss suddenly echoed in my ears. I opened my eyes and stared at my ceiling in confusion. Not making any moves, I waited and listened.

I know it couldn't have been in my head. I wasn't that deep in sleep and I wasn't dreaming either.

There was silence now and after a few minutes nothing else happened.

Accidents happened yes, and fights were rare but for some reason my instincts were squirming as if telling me to investigate.

I brushed it off as nothing...that was until it happened again.

A scream.

This time it sounded more urgent and in pain. It was a bit of a distance between me and the source but their was familiarity behind that voice.

My eyes widened as I recognized who it belonged to.

Getting up quickly, I snagged a random shirt and made my way to the scream.

Glancing at the windows in the hall, I noticed it was late in the night. Probably a little after midnight close to one.

I realized how quiet it was now as little could be heard. Straining my ears, I could only hear remnants of some of the classes going on.

As I reached the door, I gave a quick knock before entering.

Vonilla looked up alarmed at the door. When she saw me her eyes narrowed on my form before she turned away.

I looked around for anything that would make her react the way she did, however, her room still looked the same and there were no other people here either.

I then looked to her for any injuries but the only particular thing was that she was sitting at the edge of her bed, haunched over playing with her claws.

Claws.

I relaxed knowing what was wrong now. Vonilla wasn't in any real danger or being hurt physically. What she was dealing with was mental.

I frowned.

I hesitated. I...had no idea what to do here. Vonilla was my best friend but that was such a long time and she had changed. Anything I say right now could trigger her.

I took a breath before walking over to her.

"What happened?" I asked softly.

Vonilla looked at me before looking back down to her lap where her claws laid.

I took a seat next to her on the bed but made sure to keep my distance. It was strange getting use to this. In the past, we went to each other no matter the problem.
