Chapter 9

Vonilla

It was dark and my body felt particularly numb. I tried to move but found that I couldn't, my body was heavy. I couldn't tell whether my eyes were opened or closed. There was no difference in this darkness.

It was deadly quiet. I could hear no sounds, no breaths, no hearts.

That made me alert and I tried to focus on something, anything. My instincts were no help. They were scrambled.

Then my surroundings changed. The darkness seemed lighter and I could feel my body.

I still couldn't move all of that well and I felt my fingers twitch as I tried to touch the surface I was on.

A sweet yet familiar smell entered my nose but I couldn't dwell on it because of a presence at my side.

The smell of fresh food and the pumping of blood through the body made me realize just how hungry I was and overpowered the previous scent.

Hungry...

I didn't take the time to see who it was. I grabbed the person's hand and pulled them towards me and lunged.

My teeth instantly sank into their neck harshly making the person, the woman scream instantly.

I tried to ignore all the noise she was making and tried to get the blood, blood that seemed rather familiar.

"Vonilla!" The woman screamed as she tried to get me off. I didn't detach as her blood ran down my throat and I could feel the strength of being fed.

My body felt lighter and I could get a grasp of my surroundings. A slight tingle that was in my neck disappeared. The woman started to go limp as the fight left her and I got off of her.

She fell to the floor holding her neck, blood coating her arms and tears running down her face.

Karen sat on the floor looking up at me in fear, pain and anger. Karen, she was-her blood!

I need to get out of here.

I snarled at her before looking around me. This wasn't my room and by the smell, it was Rajae's. The sweet scent was his.

Then everything came back to me and the sudden urgence to get out of here hit me. I opened the door to the outside and made my way down the halls.

Through the windows, there was sunlight. So it was morning, but it felt different. However, I pushed that to the back of my head and focused on staying out of sight.

The few rippers that came out throughout the day would already be in classes or on the fields doing whatever activity. But the true action was at night when Revlir came alive.

But quiet was much more worrying than noise.

My instincts were alert of everything as I made my way outside of the manor. I didn't want a repeat of what I think was last night.

It wasn't safe anymore. But was it ever? Or did I fool myself into thinking it was? Did I let my guard drop so low?

Pathetic. I should've known.

Can't trust anyone, I decided as I made it outside. I tilted my head back and took a deep breath. Fresh air filled my lungs as I sank into my instinctive state. Not tense but not relaxed either as I surveyed around me.

My suspicion was right. Time had passed. How much, I wasn't sure.

I crossed the field to the surrounding trees. I kept going, going and going away from Revlir.
