I stumped down following Noah and went to the kitchen. I took the steak out of the oven and my lips turned into a smile.
They look perfect!
I glanced at Noah and saw him smiling too. "You want to try first?" I asked, placing it on the counter.
"Let's try together," Noah suggested.
I bobbed my head and took a knife, cutting it into small pieces. I glanced at Noah and started counting. "One."
"Two."
"Three!" We both took the piece in our mouth and I moaned at the juicy taste. "Thiz iz sow gowd," I said with my mouth full.
Noah nodded this head agreement. "We did it."
"We did." I grinned, and Miss Mad's face came to my mind. "Miss Maddox is going to blow." I giggled.
After that, we cleaned the dishes and when we finished Mr. and Mrs. Stone came back from their session.
They asked me to stay with them for dinner, even though I politely refused so many times they still made me stay. It was around nine when we were done, and I said my farewells to Mr. and Mrs. Stone.
"Don't be a stranger again, Lexi." Mrs. Stone said, kissing my cheek.
"I won't be." I smiled and went out of their house with Noah behind me. "You don't have to escort me to my car, Noah." I teased him.
"It's not a big deal." He shrugged, looking ahead.
I reached my car and opened the door, then turned towards Noah. "I... had a great time."
"Me too." He gave me his charming smile, making my heart melt.
"And uh... about that song-"
"You wanted to hear something, and that's the only one that came to my mind, so..." He shrugged his shoulders again.
I blinked my eyes at him. He didn't even stutter saying that means that... maybe I was overthinking things.
"Right..." I muttered, getting in my car. I closed the door. "I'll see you tomorrow then." Noah nodded and stepped back.
I started my car and drove towards my house feeling a little heavy.
* * * * *
I reached my house and saw dad standing at the door glaring at my car.
What did I do now?
"Hey, daddy." I greeted him with a smile as I got out of my car.
"You left your phone at home." I squeezed my eyes and groaned.
"Yeah. I forgot it and why everyone's making a big deal out of it." I sighed, getting.
"Kevin came here looking for you." I halted in my steps. "He said your phone was turned off, and he was worried."
First Darren and Emily were worried, and now Kevin?
"What did he say?"
"Nothing. Just wanted to talk to you. I told him you were at Noah's and he left." Dad looked at me sternly. "What's going on, Lexi?"
"Honestly, I do not know daddy," I replied going towards my room. "And I'm too exhausted to even think about it."
"How did your practice go?"
I told him about my successful day... well, partially successful. I told him about Mr. Stone's condition and what happened to him.
"That's too bad."
