─ 𝚌𝚑𝚊𝚙𝚝𝚎𝚛 𝚏𝚘𝚞𝚛 ─Corbyn sighed deeply as he locked his phone and threw the device on the couch after rereading her text for the thousandth time, hands running over his face and rubbing his eyes. The text he just received from Zara had him irritated, her telling him she wasn't going to make it to dinner tonight due to a double shift at the hospital.
It was the fourth time this month and it honestly annoyed the hell out of Corbyn, because this was exactly what all of their previous fights were about. The only difference was that Corbyn used to work late hours and was busy with work and it was now Zara who found it hard to make some time for her boyfriend in between the meetings and shifts as a nurse.
When he heard the key slide into the lock of the front door, he found himself nervous. His clammy hands came in contact with the material of his shorts as he wiped them down, trying his best to maintain calm.
Zara rounded the corner and she was surprised to see Corbyn sitting on the couch. With it being four in the morning, the blonde expected to find her boyfriend fast asleep in their bed, but to see him downstairs waiting for her was a nice surprise.
"What are you doing up, babe?" She asked him as she put down her bag and took off her jacket, placing it on the arm rest of the couch before she leaned down to kiss him quick.
"Late night thinking," Corbyn answered quietly, rubbing his hands together while looking at her, "About us, actually."
His words caused Zara to look at him, a small frown as her eyebrows scrunched together in confusion, "About us? What do you mean, Corbs? You're scaring me."
He sighed softly, hating how her voice sounded so vulnerable and small because he was making her insecure. He rubbed his eyes and licked his lips as a habit, hands shaky. "I don't think we're able to make us work anymore, Zee."
The blonde looked at her boyfriend, his words hitting her hard. She knew they didn't see each other often, but had the feeling they were doing quite well. To hear he thought they didn't work anymore made the tears well up in her eyes, causing her vision to become blurry as she stared at her hands.
"Can you say something, please?"
She sighed softly, "What do you want me to say? You just come out of nowhere with this and expect I have an answer? I'm sorry Corbyn, but it's just straight up bullshit if you're going to give up on us."
Her answer caught him off guard, not expecting she would be so straight up with her feelings. Corbyn shook his head, "We can not deny the fact that we're both struggling to stay together. We have already been at this state and it didn't work out back then either, Zee."
Zara stayed quiet for a few minutes, trying to take in what Corbyn had just told her. She was willing to fight for their relationship, but it seemed as if he had already given up.
"So you want to break up then?" Her voice was soft, and it cracked slightly once she finally decided to speak up. Zara looked up at Corbyn, her ocean blue eyes filled with the tears that hadn't escaped yet. It was the first time she had looked directly at him, not wanting him to see how emotional she was getting. It wasn't going to change how he felt, and she didn't want to come across as weak while fighting for something she couldn't save anymore.
Corbyn nodded softly, "I think it'll be the right thing for us. Take some time to ourselves, to figure it all out."
Zara shook her head and stood up from the couch, wiping away the tears that ran down her heated cheeks, "I don't have to figure anything out," She stated, "It's you that's giving up on us, not me."
And with that, she grabbed her bag from where she put it down just half an hour ago, swinging it over her shoulder while she reached for the car keys on her way out. It left Corbyn alone after the front door slammed shut, the silence surrounding him soaking him into thinking what he did.
Corbyn knew that she had struggled with him spending so much time at the studio, and that what he had done half an hour ago wasn't fair. It wasn't fair to Zara, her feelings and the way she tried to make it up to him when she was aware of how selfish she had been.
He had hoped he was able to do the same for her, but the lonely nights had gotten to him so much, he felt like there was no other way to handle it besides giving up on them. Corbyn still loved Zara with everything he had, and of course he felt as if he let go of a big part of his life.
He felt empty and started to think he made the biggest mistake of his life.
Zara was sitting in her car as the rain hit the roof of the vehicle, the weather matching her mood perfectly. Her head was resting against the steering wheel, tears dripping down onto her jeans.
She was currently in Jack and Harley's driveway, waiting for the rain to die down before she could go inside. Zara didn't know who to call at this ungodly hour because she knew all of her friends would be asleep, but was glad Jack picked up his phone.
The front door opened and revealed Harley coming outside with an umbrella. She opened the door on the driver's side of the car, taking over the bag Zara had picked up from the backseat when she saw Harley coming outside.
Harley took a look at her crying friend, taking her hand to give it an assuring squeeze before the two best friends quickly went inside. They didn't make conversation, Harley just reached for Zara's hands to pull her in a tight hug.
After a while, Zara had wiped away her tears and slightly pulled back from the hug. Harley kept her close as she sent her a sad smile, "Jack woke me up right after you called," The brunette spoke up quietly, "He's in the spare bedroom, making your bed for you."
Zara sent her best friend a thankful smile, taking a deep sigh before speaking up, "Thanks so much, I honestly didn't know what to do and I didn't want to stay back there."
"You can always call either of us, love," Harley smiled as she led her friend upstairs, "No matter what time."
Jack heard the two girls coming upstairs, sighing softly because of Corbyn's actions. Once the blonde had reached him, Jack was quick to react and pull the girl into a loving hug. "He's a fucking fool for letting you go."
