FOSTER CHILD | ACT TWO
scene twenty two : goodbye and good day

ISLA'S EYES FLUTTERED AS SHE WOKE. Gasping as she let the cool air fill up her lungs. Her fingers trailed the silk grass beneath her as she steadily sat upright. Although the field was clear on any trees or life, birds chirped away. Somewhere the far distance.

She stood up, running her hands along the satin slip dress she was wearing.

"You know where to find me." The woman spoke, her voice was as soft as chocolate.

Isla looked around, trying to find the source of the voice. She ran aimlessly through the field, her dress grazing along the tall grass as she did so. She couldn't tell if she was getting anywhere, the scenery hadn't changed no matter how far she travelled.

Huffing, she stopped running. A sudden and loud bellowed throughout the field. It echoed throughout environment for several seconds, causing the area around her to shake.

Feeling an overwhelming sense of death looming over her, Isla turned around. She was met with a giant raven, it's chest was puffed out as it stared up at the sky. The beautiful sky that had been a perfect shade of blue, aloof and trust turned into a deep purple, filled with mystery and dread as ravens began to flock the sky, travelling east.

She was paralysed as she looked up into the sky, the peaceful sound of emptiness filled with rapid flapping of wings. She followed the direction of the birds against her will. The more she tried to fight it the faster her head whipped in that direction.

Her eyes locked onto a person. Bubbles floated around them and their hair unnaturally stood up in the air. She squinted her eyes, trying to focus in on the person but the more she squeezed the more shaky her vision got.

The voice was deep and gargled as it spoke. "You know where to find me."

Isla awoke with a start. Gasping as she let the polluted New York air fill up her lungs. It wasn't the first time she had that dream.

She rolled over, 6:48 embedded in neon lights on her alarm clock as she tapped around her desk looking for her inhaler. She took a puff from it, noticing the open window from across the room. She could've sworn that she had closed it last night after having a heated argument with Teresa about leaving the window open.

She jumped up from the table, putting her inhaler back in its respected spot and slammed the window shut. Tightly pulling down the handle as an extra measure.

She slid her hand down her face as she looked around her room. Teresa was still fast asleep meaning she couldn't possibly have done it.

Isla shrugged her shoulders, grabbing a hair tie from her desk and messily wrapping her hair in a ponytail. She threw on a pair of black skinny jeans and a black top, wrapping a red flannel around her waist and grabbed a denim jacket from her chair.

She trudged down the stairs. She picked up the heap of letters from the floor, going through each one. It wasn't like she was looking or anything but she hadn't gotten a letter from Scott since they had last seen each other.
