Hasan dialed his landline number and excitedly waited for someone to pick up. Soon, the phone was answered,
- "Asalam Alaikum?"
"Hello, Khalil? Hasan here."
"Hi, Bhaijaan. What's up? How is college?"
Hasan chuckled, - "Everything is fine here."- He twirled his pencil, whilst staring in front at the almost empty grassy ground. It was a Sunday afternoon, and the University campus was almost empty except for few hostelers.
"How is everyone at home?" He asked casually.
There was a moment of silence, and then his younger brother replied, - "Not good, brother. Last night, Zahir Bhaijaan created a huge ruckus. Around nine-thirty and he kicked out Bhabhijan along with Yakub."
"What?" Hasan hurriedly stood up, in the process throwing away the thick chemistry textbook from his lap. Shivansh and James, who sat beside him, looked startled at him.
Hasan was horrified, - "Is Bhabhijaan alright?"
"She was a crying mess and—"
"Asalam Hasan!"- Mrs. Rauf abruptly snatched the phone, - "Everything is okay. Don't listen to--"
"Stop it, Ammi. Please control the beast of a son of yours. Yakub is just one year old for God's sake. Abbi didn't say anything either. He let it happen?" Hasan was beyond disgusted and now he was angry. He wished he could just fly to Delhi and sort the matter.
There was silence except for heavy breathing, - "Your Abbi doesn't interfere in husband and wife's personal matter and neither do I."
Hasan clenched his hair in exasperation, - "What was the matter?" He spoke through clenched teeth.
Mrs. Momina Rauf exhaled deeply, - "Sehrish's parents didn't train her well. She doesn't know how to keep her husband happy. That is why Zahir got angry. She was to iron his Kurtha for Jumma Namaz, but she burned it. It is natural to get angry. What will Zahir wear?" She reasoned.
Hasan scoffed, - "Have you thought she has a one-year-old to look after as well? She must have gotten busy with him and—you should have either taken care of the baby or ironed his Kurtha."
Momina laughed, - "Why did I get him married if I would do his chore? Besides, daughter's-in-law don't like it when their saas gets involved with the kid."
"Bhabhijaan isn't like that. Besides, why doesn't your Raja Beta do his own chores." Hasan held his forehead and let out a breath.
Momina gasped, - "And who will do office work? Sehrish or you or Yakub?"- She taunted, - "Zahir has so much work pressure. He comes home tired out of his senses and you say, he shouldn't even get rest at home. Should he work twenty-four seven? At work and at home?"
Hasan can't believe he was having this discussion with his mother. Instead of reprimanding her son, she was arguing with her other son. And his father, he was such a sorted man, even he wasn't scolding Zahir.
