Hasan finished pouring cat food for Mahajabeen and then, cleaned the cat litter. As he was about to open the main door, there was a knock at the door. He was surprised to find a gentleman in a green shirt and brown trousers standing on the other side,
"Mudassir." Hasan dropped the garbage bag and leaned for a hug. The two men greeted and embraced each other and then Hasan welcomed him in.
After Mudassir was settled, Hasan treated him with tea and snacks, then told him about Sehrish. He became anxious. In their talks, Hasan realized there was more to Mudassir than just a concern for his cousin.
"Now, it has been just a month of her iddat. You can meet her after two months." He informed. Mudassir looked visibly upset.
Hasan sighed, - "I hope Sehrish finds someone and settles. She and Yakub deserve a better life. But will she?" He eyed Mudassir from the corner of his eyes.
Mudassir nodded, - "I know someone who can convince Sehrish."
Hasan excitedly shifted in his place, - "Who?"
Mudassir looked seriously at him, - "Sehrish's Mamu, my father." He spoke confidently.
Sehrish got two mugs of chai and looked around for Anaisha. She was sitting in front of the TV with a dazed look on her face.
"What happened, Anaisha? You seem to look worried?" She sat next to her and passed her a mug. It has been a month since Sehrish shifted with her. And now, she no longer confused Anaisha with Alisha.
"Nothing, just work." Anaisha lowered her feet and relaxed back against the oversized cushion. She held her forehead.
"Do you want me to massage your head?" Sehrish sounded concerned. Anaisha smiled meekly at her, shaking her head.
There was a pause in which the ladies watched the TV. While Anaisha had her gaze on the television, Sehrish kept throwing glances at her.
"I want to see your arrogance shatter, Anahita Devi. That will be the biggest karma for you."
Anaisha shifted, turning her head towards Sehrish, - "I was thinking about how kind Hasan is, right?" She observed her.
Sehrish smiled dreamily, - "Yes. He is like a brother I never had. My own family disowned me, but he stood by me. He is a gem. But poor guy, he had to suffer heartbreak. His wife, Sanam, she died too early and so did his child."
Anaisha grasped the steaming blue ivory mug with both her hands. She felt upset recollecting his depressed tone and weary face. Indeed, his loss was too much.
"I wish, he marries again. Whoever his wife will be, she is very lucky. Yes, he is conservative but fairly liberal too. He respects everyone. He had special respect for Sanam. He fought with Ammi Jan to let her work and supported her when they struggled with infertility."
