The loud ringing of the bell echoed through the large halls and empty stairways of the college. Hasan inwardly sighed, slamming his notebook shut, and then leaned back against the bench. Gautam cracked his fingers and fell back.
"Lunch!" He suggested. Hasan looked at him and nodded. The two were bench mates but not friends, and Hasan thought it would be good to know about the boy who would be sitting with him.
Together they walked into the cafeteria that had many students clubbed together. The loud chattering, giggling of pupils, and clicking clanking of silverwares resonated in the hall. The seats were like benches with red leather and neatly furnished table in between the two benches facing each other. Gautam spotted someone and waved his arm at the person in the front. Before Hasan could catch a glimpse of the person, his "bench mate" quickly ditched him and ran off.
"Hasan!" A familiar voice called out to him and instantly he looked front.
Among the sea of people, he noticed Shivansh jumping up and down and waving frantically at him. A quick smile appeared on Hasan's face and he walked towards him. With his eyes fixed on his friend, he casually strolled towards him. On the way, his shoulder collided with someone. A petite female figure. She gasped, almost dropping the sandwich in her hand. With swift reflex, Hasan tried to grab the meal, but it fell flat on the floor.
"I am sorr—" Hasan stopped speaking as his gaze met a beautiful pair of brown eyes. He gulped softly, unable to look away. The young girl was dressed in the ivory top, white shrug with peach loose pants. But what caught his attention and interest was the head hijab.
"Um," – He cleared his throat, - "I am sorry."
"It is okay."- She spoke quietly. She turned the other way. Hasan licked his dry lips and stood rooted for a moment before speaking,
- "Shall I get another sandwich for you?" He spoke cautiously. The girl slowly looked at him and then looked away. Hasan wanted to apologize but she turned and walked through the crowd towards the counter. He sighed and kept glancing at the girl. Only once, she turned around. Their gaze met and she looked away again.
"Hey, dude!" Shivansh slammed his shoulder, taking him by surprise, - "Whom are you drooling over?" He playfully shrugged. Hasan laughed, then urged his friend towards the counter. His heart fluttered with the hope to see the girl again.
To his luck, the girl was at the counter. Ignoring the whispers of the little angel on his shoulder, Hasan nudged towards her. He wished he could get her name.
Hasan Rauf lower your gaze – The angel on his shoulder reminded him. Hasan quickly glanced away.
But dude, she is so pretty- the devil on his shoulder pointed out. Hasan glanced at her from the corner of his eyes.
Astaghfirullah!!!
As he was debating with himself, a rude push interrupted him. Priyank Ranawat shoved him hard, toppling him off his feet. Hasan fell on the floor, but Priyank seemed unmoved. He and his gang didn't bother to even spare a glance at him. He winced, pulling himself into a sitting position. Shivansh hurried to him but before he could hold him, a soft palm-held his shoulders and helped him stand. Hasan turned his head and was taken aback upon seeing the girl from before.
