(Nolan's POV)

Eventually I was able to leave the hospital. I waited hours for Lou to wake up.

But those hours turned to days.

Those days turned to months.

And months...turned to years.

After the first few months, Mandy and a couple other doctors had allowed me to have Lou at home with me.

He'd missed our 1st and 2nd engagement anniversary as well as our 3rd. Our 4th as well. And our 5th. He also missed our 6th...and 7th.

I rested my head next to the blonde's shoulder and sighed. I stared at the ceiling and thought about nice memories. What else was there to do? I thought about the one time Lou had found a spider in the bathroom. I teased him for weeks after that, because of how scared he was.
I thought about that one time I had a really bad dream, and Lou held me in his arms without even saying anything. I thought about all the times Lou had comforted me and planted a kiss on his pale forehead.

I sighed to myself. Lou was always gentle with me. He never took advantage. Even when we would argue about stupid things, he wouldn't even swear at me.

I felt a chill and sat up. I kissed the blonde's forehead once again and placed a blanket over him.

"I'm gonna go make some tea, okay? I'll be right back."

I stood from the bed and made my way downstairs. I chuckled at myself, reminiscing how funny I probably looked trying to go down the stairs with my cast all those years ago.

"Glad I don't have that cast anymore..."

As soon as my tea was ready, I poured it into a mug and glanced out the window. Did I mention that it had been snowing for the past 7 years? No?
At first, it was just light flurries. After a while, snowstorms began to be more common. It'd been such a long time since I had seen the sun clearly. Now, the sky was always cloudy and grey.

I made my way back to the main bedroom, where Lou was resting. It was morning, but you wouldn't be able to tell from how gloomy it was outside. Once again, I sat beside him, this time with a green mug in my small, dainty hands.

"Once again, it's snowing..."

There was no response. Call me crazy, but after 7 years of Lou being in a coma, I'd made a habit of talking to him. Even about the most random things.

"You have something to do with that, don't you? Although, now that I think of it, the weather in the institute has always reflected your mood, hasn't it?"

I smiled. A part of me was sure that whenever Lou was upset or sad and the weather changed, it was more than just coincidence.

"If you could make it warm again, that'd be nice. It's been years since the ground wasn't covered in snow."

I sipped my tea and looked up at the ceiling. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to talk about, but I knew Lou could hear me. Suddenly, a small voice came from the doorway of our room. A smile spread across my face.

~Flashback~

Nolan: I won't laugh, I promise!

Lou sighed, and closed a book he had been reading. The two dolls lay on their backs on their bed, side by side.

Lou: Fine. But you can't laugh.

Nolan: I won't! I won't!

Lou blushed lightly as Nolan giggled.

Lou: Well...I used to- Kind of...imagine what my kid would be like. If I had one.

Nolan: Why would I laugh at that?

Lou: Well, I used to name him and everything.

Nolan smiled, containing a chuckle.

Nolan: Tell me about him.

Lou looked at the ceiling and contemplated.

Lou: Well, I imagined a boy. He would have light brown hair...blue eyes...and he would be obsessed with airplanes. He would love them!

The brunette giggled and the blonde nudged him playfully.

Nolan: What would his name be?

Lou: Well, I've always liked the name "Lachlan" .

Nolan:..I like that name, too.

Nolan smiled and Lou planted a kiss on the brunette's forehead, pulling him closer toward himself.

~Flashback ends~

A smaller doll peered from around the door wall. I smiled and set my tea down on the dresser next to me.

" Did you just wake up?"

The boy nodded sleepily at me. I gestured for him to come closer. I wrapped my arms around him and sat him in my lap. He had freckles that looked as if they were faded, his blue eyes had a familiar sky blue hue and his brown hair was shiny and soft.

Lachlan: Is Lou awake yet?

I looked over at the blonde.

"Sorry, buddy. He's still sleeping."

Lachlan: Dad, I'm cold.

"Here, lie down with me for a bit."

I pulled the covers over us and cuddled the small boy. He was soft-spoken, and had the most adorable smile. He didn't fully understand why Lou was sleeping for so long, but he was so excited to meet him.

Even I don't understand how it was possible, but since Lou's a prototype, he's closer to a human than any other doll. Mandy came to the conclusion that only prototypes have the ability to reproduce. Thankfully, Mandy was able to help me during the C-section and whatnot. Raising a child on my own was not easy. So many times, I feared if I was good enough or if I was doing it right. Luckily, Lachlan was a pretty calm, tranquil child.

Our world had changed quite a bit.
Some dolls stayed on their houses to avoid the freezing snow, and others stayed in the big world.

It wasn't like it used to be. Regardless, I did everything I could to keep Lou and Lachlan safe.
