Cleo's POV
It's been roughly three almost 4 months since Max went to kill Teddy and it has been...rough to say the least.Pace came back a few days after and told us all so nonchalantly that Teddy and his wife were dead- we were shocked. We all knew Max set out to kill Teddy but Kensington too? I could see that hurt Hannah but she seemed to hide it.
All of that was okay, the real trouble came when Hannah started to look for Max...
*flashback*
"Where is Maxi then? Is he outside or something? I know this must be difficult for him." Hannah said, getting up to find Max.
"He's not there." Pace said blocking Hannah's path.
"Where is he then?" Hannah asked, looking up at him with glossy eyes.
We all know the answer but Pace hesitated. For the first time I saw a sad look adorn his face for a quick second. He gave her a look that said it all but it wasn't enough.
"Where is he Pace." Hannah reiterated.
"He's dead. He was shot through the chest."
Hannah's lip trembled before she collapsed onto the floor with gut wrenching sobs echoing the room. I felt my own tears flow as I looked at the state she was in.
I tried to comfort her but she just cried even harder.
"Where is he! I want to see his body! HE'S NOT DEAD I DON'T BELIEVE YOU!" Hannah wailed.
"You don't have to believe me but his body has been disposed of." Pace said, returning to his unfazed demeanour.
"WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN?! HOW COULD THAT BE?!" Hannah screamed at him.
"I couldn't drag his dead body everywhere. Don't you think that would be suspicious? I had a doctor I'm friends with incinerate him. I gave his ashes to his mother." Pace shrugged.
"What about me? I didn't even get to say goodbye, you didn't think that maybe I wanted his ashes?" Hannah weeped.
"You're only his girlfriend, despite him calling you his wife. Aunty Chiara is his mother, she deserves to have her son's ashes." Pace said. He probably didn't mean to be harsh but I could tell that was a slap in the face for Hannah.
"I can't do this anymore. I have to leave." Hannah said, pushing herself up onto her shaky legs.
"It's probably for the best. I don't think you were ever cut out for this life and now that Teddy is dead you don't have to keep looking over your shoulder." Pace said, as he watched Hannah lifelessly float towards the door.
"Hannah, we have nowhere to go!" I called after her. She ignored me and almost made it out of the door.
"Hannah, are you leaving? Where's my brother?" Hannah turned around and broke down again at the front door.
"I'm so sorry Sario. I have to leave." Hannah said through her tears.
"Why? Where's Max?" He asked, walking towards Hannah and wrapping his tiny arms around her.
"I don't know Sario." Hannah cried even harder.
"So don't leave. Let's wait for him here. He told me to protect your belly until he comes back because you've got something special in there." Rosario said, patting Hannah's stomach obliviously.
Hannah started to hyperventilate, which started to get me panicked. She's going to do herself and the baby some serious damage if she doesn't calm down, which I understand is unreasonable to expect from her at this point.
I tried to pull Rosario away from her but he didn't budge. He held her tightly, asking why she was crying and I had to walk away. This is all too much for me. Ever since I've known Hannah she's never had it easy.
When will she get to be happy?
*end of flashback*
"Please Hannah. You have to eat something." I stressed, looking at the cold plate of food I had given to her over an hour ago.
She didn't even look at me. She just stared mindlessly at the television in front of her...it's not even on.
I sighed and took her plate to the kitchen and decided to fix her an assortment of fruits, with the hopes that she'll nibble at something.
After that tragic day, we moved out. Hannah didn't want to be around Pace, Aria or anything to do with the mafia life so naturally I followed her. We lived in a hotel for about three weeks until I found a small apartment for us. There's only one bedroom and everything is extremely cramped but it's better to have some kind of stability I guess. The living room doubles as my bedroom when Hannah isn't staring at a blank tv screen. We were sharing the bed at one point but Hannah's crying was too heartbreaking for me so I moved to the couch, plus she's pregnant and sharing a single bed with me can't be comfortable.
Rosario and Eli moved back in with their parents. It was another emotional departure when they left. Elia still visits us though, I mean he kind of has to- he is my boyfriend after all and he's sworn to look after Hannah and the baby.
I have no idea what happened to Aemilio but I haven't had much time to think about that since I've been so preoccupied with Hannah.
The front door opened and Elia came in with his mother trailing behind.
"Hey guys." I said with a small smile.
"Hey baby." Elia said, giving me a quick peck.
"Has she eaten anything today?" Elia asked, as he watched his mother crouch in front of Hannah and give her a check up.
"No, she hasn't touched anything I've put in front of her, so I'm fixing some fruit for her." I sighed with a pained smile, to hide the sadness I'm feeling.
"She'll get there." He said rubbing my back.
"When, Elia? When? It's almost been four months and she's lost her fucking mind! She's almost seven months pregnant and she looks like she could be four!" I snapped angrily in a hushed tone.
Elia looked surprised because I'm usually a very calm person but I've had it with the lies and pretension. Hannah is never going to get better, I've lost all hope.
"I- I'm sorry." I apologised, I didn't have to go off on him.
"No, never apologise. You have every right to be frustrated. Just don't give up, things will get better I promise."
I wish this were all made up and then maybe it would but this is real life and it isn't merciful in the slightest.
Hannah knows that more than anyone else...
