Who Said Vampires Will Never Hurt You?

Chapter Eight - The Tainted Clock Is Counting Down

I screamed; the sound echoing of the thick walls. Suddenly I heard footsteps and Gerard frantically calling my name.

"Gerard!" I called back, vision blinded by tears as I backed up against the wall.

"VAMPIRE!" I heard Bob yell, before everything went past in a blur.

Next second I was on the floor, curled into a ball, sobbing into Gerard's protective and warm arms.

"It's going to be alright, Thorn." He reassured me, "Bob killed it." Instantly I peeled myself again from the warm body with a startled expression on my face, taking over the pout at leaving Gerard's shielding embrace.

"K-killed it?" I stuttered, "How?" Bob came into my swimming vision, blond eyebrow raised. Surprisingly, for once, that didn't annoy me. He just saved my life, I should be grateful.

"Do you really want to know how? Well," Bob said without stopping to let me justify my answer, "I got a pole and shoved it in his heart a few times and he just sort of...turned to ash."

My mouth was agape,

"Ash? Heart? Few? What?"

"He's dead, and that's all that matters now." Gerard inserted. Again with the 'trying to make me feel better' stuff! God, I actually can think for myself, believe it or not! I mean, come on, I've just been attacked by a Vampire that Bob super-humanly killed - with a pole, which - may I add? came out of nowhere -

"It didn't come out of nowhere, actually. I found it when you lost us."

"What?"

All colour drained out of my face,

"I said that out loud?" From the extremely hurt look on Gerard's face - yeah, I did.

"Yep. You did." Bob confirmed, a little smirk on his face.

"Oh, shit!" I cursed, "Gerard, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean it...oh, God..."

"No." Gerard responded coldly, "I get it Thorn. You don't need me to comfort you. I fucking get it."

"Oh, Gerard, no...-"

"No, Thorn. Just leave me alone." Gerard got up and I noticed he was holding a wooden stick. The things you find in concert halls, eh? He backed away to stand against the wall, looking down at me and the Vampire - but mostly me - with disgust.

I felt myself go cold in shock as I realised my big mouth had just possibly lost me a friend. But then I remembered what Elena said - something about working as a team; getting along with each other; helping each other when in need and sticking up for each and protecting each other's asses. Hopefully that rule still abides.
