Chapter Nine - Is This The Part Where Things Start To Look Up?

I was just about getting short of breath when Bob announced that the basecamp was just ahead of us.

"How do you remember your way around here so fast?" I asked, incredulous.

"Bob's a freak like that." Gerard laughed, smiling at me. I smiled back, hoping maybe Gerard may let what I said slide. I know he's under a lot of pressure, dealing with your best friend becoming a Vampire ain't ever gonna be nice easy work, but there was no reason for him to snap at me that way and so rudely put me down. And I know what I said wasn't very nice either, but it really was pissing me off Gerard trying to shelter me from what was constantly happening. Suppose I'm just one messed up little fucker - a totally handsome gentleman swoops into my life, offering to take care of me - kisses me and tells me I've always got him - and all I can do is rant that I'm being babied. I am one stupid motherfucker. I'd better make it up to Gerard...well, later. (No...not like that...)

We rounded one last corner and I made a last mad dash to the door, the others sprinting after me. We pounded on the door, not even bothering to look behind us to see if the evil-assed Vampires had dispersed.

"Let us in!" I yelled, my cries being mirrored by Gerard and Bob's.

After what seemed like an eternity the door swung open and we tumbled in, panting heavily. It was quickly closed behind us, and I looked up to see Mikey, Ray, Elena and Flame looking at us in worry and horror.

My band mates pulled me from the floor, Mikey and Ray doing the same to Gerard and Bob.

After we were all settled on the couch Flame asked,

"Well?"

"Well...we didn't get any food. But, we got weapons." A small groan emitted from Ray, who was forlornly patting his stomach. We all laughed, but our laughs sounded strange in the room and immediately we stopped.

"Look, here." Gerard tossed the three metal poles we collected to the floor, "We got these, and Bob and I already have two weapons. That's a fair amount, I suppose."

"It's a good amount, because we've already got weapons." Mikey gestured to a corner of the room where three fire extinguishers were lined up, standing proud.

"Yay! Fire extinguishers!" I cried, wondering how I missed those things of beauty.

Everyone laughed, and this time it didn't sound hollow and fake.

"That's amazing; these will come in so handy for killing the Vamps!" Gerard pointed out, smiling broadly. "Sorry we didn't manage to get any food, but a huge - what was it you called 'em Bob? A pack? Came in right ahead of us and we just had to retreat. Sorry guys."

"A pack...?" Flame asked, "Oh, God, how many? I'm just glad you're okay!"

"There was like twenty Vamps or something!" Bob replied, moulding into the sofa.

"Well, I've got an idea," Mikey piped up. Ray, Elena and Flame all smiled secretively. Gerard, Bob and I all looked puzzled,

"What is it, Mikes?" Gerard asked.

"Well," Mikey responded, looking around at Ray, Flame and Elena who all gave him a small thumbs up sign, "We've been talking and we decided that to do this you need all of our help. So, we've decided that we'll all go together. You didn't find the food and stuff, but it's okay because we'll all work together and help so that we do! The more the merrier and all that. Plus, it'll be easier to kill more Vamps with more of us - especially with all these weapons!"
