Jungkook’s heart felt like it was being ripped apart as he stood there, staring at Jimin, struggling to comprehend what had just happened. Jimin, the person he had grown so close to, the person he wanted to spend his life with, had just rejected him. And it didn’t make sense.

"Why?" Jungkook’s voice cracked, barely above a whisper, but full of pain. His mind raced, replaying every moment they had spent together, trying to figure out where it had gone wrong.

Jimin’s eyes darted away, guilt written on his face. "Yes, why? At least give me a reason," Jungkook pressed. He couldn’t just walk away without understanding. His heart knew Jimin loved him, it had to be more than just friendship. He wasn’t ready to believe otherwise.

"Hyung..." Jimin began, but the words stuck in his throat.

"One reason, Jimin. I promise I will leave you if...you want me to. But just tell me why." Jungkook’s desperation was palpable. He wanted to respect Jimin’s decision, but it was tearing him apart.

"I don’t want you to leave me," Jimin’s voice was small, fragile.

Jungkook blinked, confused and hurt. "Are you hearing yourself? You reject me, but you don’t want me to leave?"

Jimin stayed silent, his mouth opening as if to speak, but he quickly closed it again, unsure of what to say. His mind was a mess, torn between his feelings and his fear.

"I told you I love you. I want you and Jae to be a part of my life," Jungkook continued, his voice thick with emotion. "I just want your answer, and I got it. You don’t want me. You don’t love me. But Jimin, please, give me a reason so I can leave in peace."

The weight of Jungkook’s sadness hit Jimin like a ton of bricks. He had never seen Jungkook like this. Every time they were together, Jungkook was all smiles, radiating positivity, always brightening Jimin’s world. And now, Jimin was the one making that light dim.

"Hyung, you’re my friend. Just like Tae and Hobi hyung. I never saw you as more than that. I’m sorry." Jimin’s voice was flat, emotionless, a defense mechanism against the storm raging inside him.

"Friend..." Jungkook echoed, his heart sinking deeper into despair. A year of being by Jimin’s side, of sharing laughs, tears, and moments of closeness—it had all meant something to him, but to Jimin, it was nothing more than friendship. How could that be?

"It’s just me, then," Jungkook said, his voice shaking. "I’m the only one who feels this way."

Jimin looked down, unable to meet Jungkook’s eyes. "I like you, hyung."

"No, I want you to love me." Jungkook’s voice cracked again, the vulnerability raw and exposed.

"I can’t give you that," Jimin replied quietly, holding back his own emotions. He had learned to control them, to hide the pain, to keep the walls up.

"Did you realize that you gave me hope?" Jungkook asked, his voice laced with frustration and disbelief. "All this time we’ve spent together... all those moments... they meant nothing to you?"

"I never gave you hope," Jimin said firmly, though his heart was breaking as he spoke. "I never told you I loved you. I never showed you that I did. How could you think I had feelings for you? For real, hyung, you’re just my friend. Not more than that. Never more than a neighbor."

"Neighbor?" Jungkook repeated, the word hitting him like a punch to the gut. He couldn’t believe Jimin would reduce their connection to something so distant, so cold.

"Yes. If you can’t accept that, then I need you to leave," Jimin said, his voice hardening, even though every fiber of his being wanted to scream out in pain. "I can’t help you with your feelings."

"Jimin..." Jungkook’s voice wavered, but Jimin cut him off.

"Leave, hyung. I have too much to deal with already. I can’t add your feelings to my life. If you can’t be just my friend, then please... leave."

The words shattered Jungkook’s heart completely. The person he loved more than anything, the one he had dreamed of building a life with, was asking him to leave. His throat tightened, his body feeling heavy under the weight of the rejection.

"You really want me to leave?" Jungkook asked, his voice barely audible now.

"Yes."

Jungkook’s eyes hardened, though inside, he was falling apart. "You won’t see me again, Park Jimin."

With those final words, Jungkook turned and left, the sound of the door closing behind him like the final nail in the coffin of his hope. As soon as he was gone, Jimin collapsed to the floor, his body trembling as sobs wracked his chest. He had tried so hard to hold it together, but now, alone and broken, he couldn’t stop the tears.

"Jae..." Jimin whimpered through his sobs, longing for the only person who could bring him comfort. But Jae wasn’t there. Tae had taken him out, and for that, Jimin was grateful. He couldn’t bear for Jae to see him like this—crying, shattered, and lost.

Curled up on the floor, Jimin cried out all the pain he had been holding inside, the heartbreak he had tried to bury. The one person who had made him feel alive again was gone, and Jimin didn’t know if he’d ever be able to repair the pieces of his broken heart.
