“Hi…” Jimin looked up, startled but pleasantly surprised by the warm greeting. Standing there with his usual bright smile was Jungkook, the handsome neighbor who always managed to make Jimin’s day just a little bit better.
Jimin was busy in the garden, kneeling on the soft grass, dirt on his hands as he planted flowers with a little helper by his side—Jae, his nephew. The garden had become a calming routine for Jimin, and today, Jae had eagerly joined in with his childlike enthusiasm.
“Kookie appa!” Jae squealed with delight, tossing aside his little trowel as he saw Jungkook. He quickly abandoned his gardening duties and dashed toward his favorite person, his tiny feet kicking up bits of soil as he ran.
Jungkook laughed, his eyes lighting up as he leaned down and effortlessly scooped Jae into his arms. “Hey, baby bear! What’s my favorite little boy up to today?” Jungkook’s hug was unbothered by the dirt smudging Jae’s clothes and hands. His affection for the child was evident as he planted a playful kiss on Jae’s head.
“I’m helping Appa plant flowers!” Jae announced proudly, his voice full of excitement as he clung to Jungkook.
“Aww, that’s sweet of you. What kind of flowers are you planting?”
Jae’s eyes sparkled. “Roses!”
Jungkook shifted his gaze from Jae to Jimin, who was now standing up and brushing the dirt from his knees, a little flustered at their interaction. “Roses, huh? You like roses?” Jungkook asked, his gaze softening as he focused on Jimin.
Jimin scratched the back of his head, shyly avoiding Jungkook’s eyes. “Yeah… I love roses. They’re my favorite,” he admitted quietly, his cheeks flushing just a bit. He always felt a little self-conscious around Jungkook, especially when he was being so sweet and attentive.
“Oh, really?” Jungkook’s smile grew wider, his eyes twinkling with genuine interest. Jimin gave a small nod, still not used to how much Jungkook paid attention to the little things he said.
Jimin couldn’t help but notice how handsome Jungkook looked today. Dressed casually in simple jeans and a white shirt, with a black backpack slung over his shoulder, he seemed ready to go somewhere. “Where are you off to, Hyung?” Jimin asked, curious.
Jungkook adjusted the strap of his backpack. “I need to head to my shop. Got some stuff to take care of for an upcoming event.”
Jae, always eager to be included in Jungkook’s plans, immediately perked up. “Can I come with you?” he asked, his eyes pleading.
But before Jungkook could answer, Jimin shot him a look. “Not today, Jae. Maybe next time, okay?”
Jae’s lips pouted, but he didn’t argue, nodding obediently when Jungkook promised, “Next time for sure, little bear.”
Turning back to Jimin, Jungkook smiled. “It’s for my first art exhibition.”
Jimin’s eyes widened with excitement. “Really, Hyung? That’s amazing! When is it? Can I come?”
Jungkook’s heart swelled with pride at Jimin’s genuine enthusiasm. “Of course! I’d love to hear your thoughts on my work. It’s next week.”
“I’ll definitely mark it in my calendar,” Jimin said with a grin. He had always admired Jungkook’s art, the way it captured the world in vibrant, breathtaking detail. It was one of the things that drew Jimin to him—the beauty Jungkook saw in the world reflected in his paintings.
“Can I come too?” Jae asked again, tugging at Jimin’s leg with hopeful eyes.
Jimin looked down at him and sighed, smiling fondly. “You really want to go, huh?”
“Yes!” Jae replied with a determined nod.
“Okay,” Jimin relented, making Jae giggle in excitement.
“Can I paint too?” Jae asked, his eyes sparkling as he imagined himself in front of a canvas, just like Jungkook.
Jungkook knelt down to Jae’s level, ruffling his hair. “Of course you can. I’ll save a spot just for you, so you can paint whatever you want.”
“No, Hyung, that’s too much,” Jimin interjected, feeling a bit embarrassed by how much Jungkook was willing to do for Jae.
Jungkook simply shrugged with a playful grin. “Why not? I’ll do anything for my baby bear.”
“Yay!” Jae clapped his hands together, overjoyed by the idea. He couldn’t wait to show off his ‘skills’ at the exhibition.
Jimin shook his head with a smile. “Hyung, you spoil him too much.”
Jungkook winked at him, his playful energy ever-present. “It’s my pleasure,” he said smoothly, making Jimin blush slightly. He tried to hide his embarrassment by lightly hitting Jungkook’s bicep. Their shared laughter filled the air, a comfortable, warm sound between them.
Their laughter grew louder when they noticed Jae struggling to lift the heavy watering can, determined to be as helpful as possible. He stumbled a bit, his little legs barely managing to balance the weight.
Just then, Jimin’s face lit up as if remembering something important. “Hyung, I got a job!”
Jungkook’s eyes widened in surprise and delight. “No way! That’s amazing, Jimin! Tell me everything.”
Jimin beamed with pride, feeling a sense of accomplishment, and for a moment, their conversation was filled with laughter, support, and dreams for the future. The air between them was charged with something new, something unspoken but growing with each passing day.
