"Tadaaaaaaa...."
Jungkook blinked, his gaze falling on the scene before him. Jimin's yard was transformed—painting tools scattered everywhere, brushes of all sizes, easels standing tall, and an array of vibrant colors ready to be used. Everything was meticulously prepared. Jungkook loved painting, but this unexpected setup caught him by surprise.
"What is this?" he asked, a mix of curiosity and confusion in his voice.
Jimin grinned, his eyes sparkling with mischief. Without another word, he pushed Jungkook down into a chair with a playful shove. Their son, Jae, stood nearby, clapping his hands in excitement, his tiny face glowing with joy. He was eager to start painting too, his enthusiasm contagious.
"What are you guys doing?" Jungkook asked again, though the answer was already starting to take shape in his mind.
Jimin turned to him, his grin widening. "I told you," he said, his voice soft but full of determination. "We will start over."
Jungkook blinked, his heart tightening as he recalled the conversation they’d had not too long ago. He had been in a dark place, feeling like he had lost everything after a series of unfortunate events. But now, staring at the thoughtful scene Jimin had prepared, he realized he hadn't lost anything at all. He still had Jimin, and he had Jae—the two people who kept him grounded and gave him the strength to keep going.
"You did this... for me?" Jungkook asked, his voice faltering slightly as the realization hit him.
Jimin rolled his eyes, a playful smile tugging at his lips. "Is there anyone else here?" he teased, but the affection in his tone was clear.
Jungkook felt his throat tighten. His hands trembled as they reached for a paintbrush. He had no words to properly express the overwhelming gratitude coursing through him. "T-thank you," he managed to stutter, though it felt far too small to convey what he was feeling.
Before he could dip the brush into the paint, he felt Jimin’s arms wrap around him from behind, his chin resting gently on Jungkook’s shoulder. The warmth of his embrace washed over him, grounding him in that moment.
"I love you..." Jimin whispered, his voice so soft yet powerful enough to fill Jungkook's heart to the brim. The sincerity in those words was undeniable, and it made everything feel right again.
Jungkook swallowed hard, struggling to find the right words. "Y-you... are the best thing that has ever happened to me," he finally whispered, his voice shaky with emotion.
"I am here for you... and Jae too, always," Jimin said, his voice full of warmth and love. He rubbed Jungkook’s arm in slow, soothing circles, as if assuring him that everything would be okay.
"I-i..." Jungkook started, but the words escaped him.
"Let's enjoy this moment," Jimin whispered again, his humming soft and melodic as if they were both drifting in a dream.
Jungkook closed his eyes, letting the moment sink in, feeling as if they were floating together through the sky. For a fleeting second, everything felt perfect.
Suddenly, Jae’s small voice brought them back to reality. "Why did appa kiss Kookie appa? Appa should kiss Jae too! Why only Kookie appa?" Jae pouted from Jungkook’s lap, his little face scrunched up in the cutest display of jealousy.
Jimin burst into laughter, his heart swelling at the sight of his son, who had somehow climbed onto Jungkook’s lap without either of them noticing. Jae had inherited his father’s habits—pouting, whining, and sulking when he didn't get what he wanted. But it only made him more adorable.
"My little Jae wants a kiss?" Jimin cooed, his eyes twinkling with affection.
"Kisses!" Jae demanded, crossing his small arms across his chest in a mock show of defiance.
"Baby bear wants kisses from me?" Jungkook asked, leaning in to give his son a kiss.
"Nope!" Jae replied quickly, shaking his head. "Jae wants kisses from Jiminie appa only!"
Jungkook laughed, smirking as he cupped Jae’s face and leaned in for a kiss anyway. But Jae, with his usual quick reflexes, pushed Jungkook's hand away and jumped off his lap, running as fast as his little legs could carry him. His laughter echoed through the yard as he successfully escaped his Kookie appa.
"Hey, come back here!" Jungkook called out, chasing after him with playful determination.
Jimin stood back, watching the two most important people in his life running around the yard. His heart felt light as he gazed up at the sky, a soft smile playing on his lips.
"Thank you," he whispered, his words meant for the universe, "for giving him to me and Jae."
The end.
