Hannah's POV

"You know," Chester began, taking a drink from his, what? Tenth beer? "For a dyke, you're not so bad."

"I'll take it." I smiled at him keenly. "You're not bad either, for a man."

"Fair enough." He glanced past me for a moment at Grace and Mamrie, rolling his eyes.

"Okay, if we're gonna be friends, you can't keep looking at Grace like that." I looked over my shoulder to see Mamrie mixing a drink and Grace scream-laughing at something Mamrie had said. I fought her eye and smiled warmly. She brightened her already blinding grin and I turned back to Chester.

"Like what?" He asked through his teeth.

"Resentfully." I let out a breathy laugh, shaking my head. "Do you really think it's all her fault?" I raised my glass to my lips.

"Well, yeah." I nearly choked on my drink at his matter-of-fact tone.

"Wait, seriously?" I half coughed, half laughed. "Okay. Let's talk about this," I widened my eyes, shaking my head lightly and letting out a loud breath. "entirely new thing."

"What? You don't blame her?" His voice was puzzled and his face followed suit.

"Well, there were two of us there that night."

"Yeah, but you weren't in a relationship." I tried to remember the first night I spent with Grace, about two and a half months ago. My fiancé decided to add insult to injury and well. I remembered how she'd waved her hand around to emphasize the lack of a ring.

"Neither was she." I think I sort of new where this conversation was going, running a shaky hand down my thigh and clenching a fist on my knee.

"What are you talking about?" He furrowed his brow.

"When did you propose to Grace?" My breathing quickened and my chest heaved.

"Three months ago." I swallowed hard and looked back over at Grace.

"Fuck."
