Ten minutes later, Grace came out of the car. Her eyes were tear-stricken and she looked nearly identical to that first night. As she walked over to me I noticed the way the tears fell like rain on a Sunday afternoon. Her hands shook as she wiped the tears away. I ran to her like my hair was on fire to discover what was wrong.

"Grace? What the hell's going on?" I wrapped my arms around her as she wept.

"It-it's Mamrie." She sobbed into my shoulder. "She's impossibly smart. She knows about us. She said she wanted nothing to do with me or you and that I should get help."

I pushed her off me gently, tilting her chin up to look at her. "Babe, I know this sucks. But we really can't expect people to accept this. Even our best friends will turn on us because of this."

"I-I know. I just wish it were easier." She sobbed as I pulled her to me. I felt her shaky breathing and her frantic heartbeat. As Mamrie got out of her car and walked into the theater, shooting me a spiteful look.

I stood up, looking at Grace assuringly.
