Mamrie's POV

"Shit." I mumbled under my breath as I examined Chester's hand. Three of his knuckles were bleeding furiously and his pinky bone felt shattered. "You probably didn't break it." I lied. "But we should wrap it up in something and get you to a hospital."

"Fine." He spat. "Let's just get this over with."

I spotted Grace and Hannah stumbling out of Hannah's bar. I pulled Chester behind a corner, accidentally moving his hand in the process.

"God! Mamr-" I clamped a hand over his mouth, the other on the back of his head and pressed his back to the wall. He let out a few screams, but they were halted by my hand.

"Shut up!" I think he must have understood because he immediately silenced his cries. "Okay. Better. Now if I take my hand away, will you be quiet?" He nodded furiously behind my hands and I took them away.

"What the hell, Mamrie?" He looked at his hand with wide eyes.

I shushed him and took a step towards the corner to check for Grace and Hannah. Sure enough, there they were. Hannah's hands were dripping with blood and there was quite a bit on Grace's blouse and in her hair. But they were smiling. Laughing, even. Hannah's arm was around Grace's shoulders and Grace seemed to be holding her up, helping her walk. Which made sense, she had drank about a bottle of gin. I heard Chester shuffle around behind me, cursing under his breath.

"What the hell are you looking at?" He whispered, joining me at the corner. I didn't look at him, but I could hear a shaky breath escape his lips.

"I'm sorry." I took his good hand and he jerked it away, fiddling with the band around his finger.

"Could you help me out?" He gestured for me to take off his ring. "I just don't need the reminder."

I hesitated.

"Of course." I gave him a small smile and carefully took the ring off his hand.

In one fluid motion, he took the ring from me and threw it in Hannah's direction. Shockingly, it hit her right temple and she winced.

"Chester!" I shouted and pulled us both back behind the corner.

"Fuck." I heard Hannah curse from across the street.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" I smacked the side of Chester's head a little harder than intended. He let out a small yelp, rubbing the spot of impact with his good hand.

"Sorry, I just," Chester tugged his lip between his teeth. "I don't know. I'm sorry."

"It's fine just don't do that again." I shook my head at him, turning to look back past the corner.

Hannah and Grace searched frantically in our direction with confused, and slightly dazed, looks on their faces. Hannah was the one to spot me. She nudged Grace's arm with her bloodstained knuckles. She said something I couldn't hear and her face sank for a moment. Hannah reached for her hand, looked at her reassuringly, and they began to make their way over to Chester and I.

"Uh, Chess?" I froze, eyes locked on Grace and Hannah. "You might want to go. I don't think they saw you."

"But-"

"Dude." I turned to him abruptly, grabbing his good hand and looking him sternly in the eyes. "Run."
