In the ten hours Kylo had been laying down, he must have woken up six times. Not for very long each time, but enough to break his sleep into un-refreshing chunks. There was a tenseness to his muscles that made him more like a mannequin against the arm of his soft couch than a man of flesh and bone. He wanted so much to melt onto the soft foam, thawed by the fire before him, and drift into the world of dreams. Yet his brain was a violent whirl of stupidity, trying to organize the chaos in his life.
Kylo wanted so badly to wash his brain in cold water, chill the whole thing right out but he couldn't. He wanted a coffee but the caffeine would put him over the edge.
Kylo watched as the black sky gradually turned into a dim grey and the illumination of stars turned languidly lustreless. Millions of stars in the night sky started hiding their brightness and slowly dissipated. Divergent birds gently flew and their dulcet dawn chorus was easily audible.
Then sunlight filled the sky, pure scattered light; its hue ambitiously illuminating each crevice of the land. The sky wasn't grey anymore, but a soothing lavender and brilliant amber instead. The colours merged into neon pink and peach.
The sound of a quiet groan beside him turned Kylo's attention away from the sunrise, and to the woman beside him. He had almost forgotten that Rey slept over last night. In the wash of the new light, Rey's face had taken on the appearance of an old photograph, one of nostalgia, so beautiful. Kylo watched as it brought her skin into focus, not yet animated with the warmth of who she was, for she was still in the land of the dreams.
Unsure of what to do, Kylo reached a hand out towards her and nudged her. It was a very gentle gesture, more of a tap than a nudge, but it was enough to wake her from her slumber. Rey's eyes flickered open and settled on Kylo almost immediately. She let out a long sigh and sat up, all while Kylo watched her.
"Uh... Are you hungry?" He asked, scratching the back of his neck.
Rey turned to face him once again. "Yeah, a little."
"Right... Okay." Kylo said, standing to his feet and stretching his long legs. He reached a hand out to Rey, which she took, and hoisted her up off the floor. "The kitchen's just this way."
After walking through the quiet house, Kylo reached the kitchen, Rey trailing groggily behind him with a blanket around her shoulders. They kept silent as Kylo poured them both a bowl of cereal, neither one knowing what to say to the other after last night's events.
Kylo held both of the bowls in his hands and walked out the kitchen door and into the dining room, gesturing with his head for Rey to follow him. However, when he swung open the dining room door, what he saw stopped him dead in his tracks, causing Rey to bump into his back and let out a loud yelp.
Sitting at the long dining table was Vicrul and Ushar, munching down their cereal in nothing but their boxers.
"Hey, Kylo!" Vicrul said with his mouth full. "You coming to eat, or what?"
Before Kylo could respond, another voice chimed into the conversation.
"Damn, Kylo." Ushar chuckled, gesturing to the bowls of cereal in each of his hands. "That's a lot of cereal for just one person."
Suddenly, Kylo felt a presence brush past him and before he knew it, Rey had stepped out from behind him and was now standing at his side.
Vicrul's mouth dropped open, letting his chewed up cereal fall out as his eyes darted between the two. Ushar, on the other hand, was smirking in amusement at Kylo's flushed expression.
"Hello there, Rey." Ushar chortled, resting his feet on the table. "What time did you get here?"
"I got here last ni-" Rey began to say, but was quickly interrupted.
