Where did Ayase go? And why did she leave me with a letter? Only a letter?

"Masato, did you see where Ayase went?" I asked the elder.

"Isn't she with you?" he asked.

"She just left me with a letter!" I complained.

After that, I sat outside the building, waiting for her return. After an hour, I finally saw her walking towards me.

"Ayase, where were you?" I asked.

"Didn't you read the letter? My mom called me to the palace." she replied.

"And what did she say?" I asked, getting curious.

"She told me that... I'm going to an arranged engagement, though I have a choice whether to accept or not. But, if I accept, I'll have to stop becoming what I am now, a Princess. But if I accept, it could help our country." she explaned, debating whether to accept or not.

But, why is she going to accept? If she accepts, then I won't be able to see her again, and if she accepts, our realm is in trouble. I need to stop her, I don't know what to do if she leaves. I don't know myself. Do I like her that much? Maybe it's because we need her... yeah, that's probably it.

"Jun! Jun! Stop spacing out." Ayase said, waving her hand in front of my face.

"Sorry, but, would you accept the engagement?" I asked her.

"Most probably, it has a lot of benefits... but also a lot of disadvantages. I didn't even meet the guy, and if I go, we won't be able to meet again, right?" I asked.

"If you accept, what would happen to us? Don't you think we would easily crumble without you, Princess?" I asked, getting upset.

"I did consider that, but you'll be fine without me, right? I mean, everyone here is strong." she protested.

"What about me? You'll just leave me here?" I asked, recalling all of the times we spent together.

"I get your point, I'll think about it again." she said, giving up.

I'll be lonely without her. I like her a lot. But like is different from love, right? My like for her is a guardian, I only see her like a little sister, right?
