(Tessie's POV)
It was after practice, it was night time by now. I was in the back with Charlie as Lewis drove us to Charlie's apartment. Once we made it, Charlie and I both got out and Dad handed Charlie his gear bag. "Here you go." Dad says. "Thanks. Thanks for the ride." Charlie says. "You did real well in practice today, Charlie. Let me ask you something. What happened to your dad?" Dad questions.
"Mom and I left him. l don't really remember, but that's what she says." Charlie says and I nod. "What happened to Tessie's Mom?" Charlie questions and I look up, also curious. "She left when Tessie was a baby, no note, just an empty closet half." Dad says and I hug Dad tightly. "You know, when I was a boy, I had to take care of my Mom too." Dad says and I smile. "Really? What happened to your dad?" Charlie questions.
"He passed away." Dad says and we all look down for a second, but Dad breaks the silence yet again. "You do a good job takin' care of your mom." Dad says and I smile seeing Charlie's face light up. "Thanks." Charlie says. "Keep it up, all right?" Dad questions and Charlie nods. "Okay. We'll see ya." Dad says as he and I go to walk away. "Okay. Hey, coach. Tess." Charlie says. "What's that?" Charlie questions and we turn to the direction he was pointing but we were both nailed with snowballs. "Oh!" I exclaim. "You're in for it." I exclaim but as I try to get Charlie I hit Dad with the snowball. "You've both just entered the tickling zone!" Dad exclaims and he grabs Charlie and I and we all start laughing.
(The Next Day)
I was in the back of the van while Dad was telling Lewis a story up front. "So I'm in the middle of my cross-examination and l say to the guy, I usually defend heels like you, you scuzzy, mole-faced rat." Dad says and he and Lewis chuckle. "You know this other guy is a scuzzy mole-faced rat." I say. "Who?" Dad questions and before I can say anything the window to Dad's side breaks.
"Whoa." I say in astonishment. Dad then rushes out of the car, but I had a feeling he wasn't going to yell at him. Suddenly the window on my side breaks and my eyes widen, it shock and amazement. "Why don't you play for us?" I hear Dad question. "I can't." The kid says. "What do you mean?" Dad questions again. "I mean, I can't." The kid says again. "You afraid?" Dad questions. "No, I mean I can't, you moron. I don't know how to skate." The kid says and he fires another puck, which hits into a suitcase making it go back a bit and shut. "Whoa!" Dad and I exclaim. "ls that all that's stoppin' ya?" Dad questions and we get the kid some blades.
"Hi. I'm Tessie." I say holding out my hand. "Fulton." He says shaking my hand. "One day, you need to teach me that shot." I say and he smiles a bit. "All right." He says. Let's gather everyone up." I say to Dad and we go to each individual house and I pop out of the window and shout for them, and every time, they come back outside.
(At the mall)
I had my rollerblades on and we were skating through the mall as Fulton was with Dad. I was skating side by side with Connie and Guy. "Sorry!" I shout as we skate through a group of people, after we got out Connie, Guy and I burst into laughter.
(Game TIme)
It was game time, or well game day. I woke up bright and early and I see Dad holding a huge box. "What's that?" I question. "Nothing." Dad says and I raise a brow. "Okay then. Come one we're going to be late!" I exclaim and I grab my bag with my gear, and I grab my stick from next to the door. I walk out and I go to the van. "Hey Lewis." I say and he smiles back at me. "Hey Tessie." He says and I set my gear next to me.
Once we made it there I was sat next to Charlie and I watched Dad bring the hug box in. He then opened it and they were jerseys! Like real jerseys! "The Ducks? We're the Ducks?" Jesse questions. "Man, what brain-dead jerk came up with that name?" Terry questions. "As a of fact, I did. But I didn't have a choice. We're being sponsored." Dad says. 'Ducksworth.' I mouth. "By who? Donald and Daisy?" Averman questions and we all laugh at that.
"Hey, you don't wanna be Ducks? You'd rather be District Five? Some stupid number?" Dad questions. "Better than some stupid animal." Peter says. "I'll have you know, Peter, that the Duck is one of the most noble, agile and intelligent creatures of the animal kingdom kingdom." Dad says. "But they're wimpy." Jesse says. "They don't even have teeth!" Averman exclaims. "Neither do hockey players." Dad says and we all laugh at that.
"Have you guys ever seen a flock of ducks flying in perfect formation? It's beautiful. awesome the way they all stick together." Dad says. "Ducks never say die." I say and everyone chuckles at that. "Ever seen a duck fight? No way. Why? Because the other animals are afraid. They know that if they mess with one duck, they deal with the whole flock." Dad says and he takes off his jacket revealing the jersey on his body. I cover my mouth suppressing a laugh. "Oh, man!" Everyone says with giggle.
"I'm proud to be a duck. And I'd be proud to fly with any one of you. So how about it? Who's a Duck?" Dad questions and Fulton walks over. "I'll be a Duck." Fulton says. "Yeah, me too." Charlie and I say and Dad hands me my jersey and I grin at it. After everyone has their jersey we all cheer. "Now we're the ducks!" Dad exclaims and we cheer. "The Mighty Ducks!" Dad exclaims and we cheer yet again. "What are we?" Dad question. "The Ducks!" We shout.
