(Tessie's POV)
It was championship day. I was in my uniform and I was stood next to a Hawk and I was glaring at him to whole time. We were all stood there as the National Anthem played. Once it was over Dad shouted. "Let's go!" We all then skated over to our side. "Ducks, let's fire it up! Come on, let's get fired up! Quack, quack, quack, quack!" Dad starts and we started chanting with him, eventually most of the crowd did too! "Go...Ducks!" We exclaimed. "Let's go!" Dad exclaims and he nods at me telling me I can play. I put my helmet on and I skate to my position.
"Want me to go easy on you short stack?" The boy next to me questioned and I growled. "Bite me." I say and the game started. I tune out the noise except for the sound o someone falling on the ice...It was Adam, he was pushed over by Larson and McGill. I started skating towards the puck but I was pushed from behind and I fell over and hit the wall. I groaned but got up and continued skating. "Come on Banksy." I mutter as I see him with the puck, but it was taken by a Hawk. They started skating but Jesse and I tried getting the puck back, but when I did I passed it to Adam who was open.
He got it and started skating. I saw Charlie motion for Adam to pass it to him, but he was slammed against the wall and Charlie fell over. The Hawks have to puck again and they scored on Goldberg. I shook my head and I looked up at the scoreboard, 1-0. We reset and started playing again. Adam had the puck and we started skating towards the goal, I was certain he was going to make it, but when he got in front of the goal, Hawks pushed him over and got the puck again.
I rolled my eyes and started skating after them. I got next to them but one of them shoved me and I fell over but got back up again. But when I was about to get the puck they scored again, 2-0. We continued playing, a Hawk went to score but thankfully Goldberg caught it. I sighed in relief and I started skating again. Adam had the puck but he was surrounded, I was going over to help him, but I was flipped over and I landed on my back. The Hawk that flipped me over leaned over me. "I gave you the option." He says and I glare. I get up and I continue skating. I skated next to Averman as we tried to get the puck back, but the Hawks gained control and scored again, 3-0.
We were called in and I skated over. "Don't be afraid of them, Ducks. That's what they want. Keep your head up. Play proud. Let's fly! Come on, let's go!" Dad exclaims and I go back over the wall to my position. The puck was dropped and the Hawks immediately gained control over the puck, again. But then Adam got it. I started skating next to him just in case, but McGill shoved Adma, making him ram into the goalpost. But we still got a goal which I internally cheered for. I noticed a Hawk stood over Adam and another leaned over him. "Bansky?" I question and I skate over and I notice him barely moving.
"Guys!" I shout and I try to help Banks stand, but he was too heavy for me to carry, especially on skates. The refs came over and moved the goalpost. "Okay, we need the paramedics in. He's injured." The ref says and I stand up. "Come on son, let's go." The ref says leading McGill away and I glare at him as he skates away. Dad runs out onto the ice and I shake my head as I look down at the knocked out Adam. "Number seven, McGill. Cross-checking. Two minutes." The ref says. "Two minutes?!" I exclaim angrily.
They take Adam onto a gurney and they put a flashlight in his eyes. "Did it go in?" Adam questions. "Yeah, man." Jesse says and I take off my helmet. "Jesse, do me a favor. Kick some Hawk butt. You too Tess." Adam says and I smile. "All right, cake-eater." Jesse says. "Sure thing Bansky." I say and we skate away as they take the gurney away. "For Adam." I say and Guy, Averman, and Jesse nod. We then skate over to our box. "Let me go 'em, coach. Let me get 'em." Fulton says and I nod in agreement. "I'll gladly help." I say.
"No, we're better than that. Look, look, it's time to play smart hockey, Duck hockey. All right? Now we got the power play." Dad says. "Yeah!" We all say. "We're gonna hit 'em where it the most...up there." Dad says pointing at the scoreboard. "Yeah!" We cheer again. "Fulton, you're in." Dad says. "Coach, they'll be rushin' him." Averman says. "Right. Jesse, make sure you give Fulton plenty of time." Dad says. "Right, coach." Jesse says. I nod in agreement and Fulton turns to me. "If I can't do the shot, you'll do it for me right?" Fulton questions. "Of course, bash brother." I say and he smiles. "Thanks, bash sister." He says. See we came up with these nicknames because if people really messed with us...We'll bash things.
"Hold it ! Wait ! Whoa ! Let's have fun out there." Dad says and I grin. "All right!" We cheered and I went out onto the ice next to Fulton and we got into our positions. The puck was down and Jesse passed it to Fulton. I helped him knock over the players and I hear the familiar whack of Fulton's shot and I grinned as I saw the goalie fly into the goal with the pressure of Fulton's shot. Fulton cheered and we ran over to our box and we all hugged each other as we cheered. "Yeah!" Dad cheers. "More fun! More fun!" Dad exclaims and we cheer with him.
We then went back onto the ice and I saw people eyeing Fulton, not cautiously though. The puck hit and the game began. I started skating, the puck went in between each team, but when it finally got to the Hawks they scored on us, 4-2.
We skated back to the box. "Guys, guys, guys, listen up, listen. We have got to stay fired up and focused, all right? It ain't over 'til it's over. Tammy, Tommy, let's show the Hawks something different. Come here. All right." Dad says and he tells us the plan. I grin at it. I stay in the box and I stand next to Fulton and my Dad. "Third period and the Ducks trail 4-2, desperately trying to get back in the game. The Ducks with Tammy and Tommy Duncan on the ice. Tammy Duncan goes in front of the net, Tommy with the puck. Tammy's spinning, and the Hawks are just looking at her." The spokesman says.
"Come on. Come on!" We all exclaim. "Now!" Tommy exclaims and Tammy stops and she gets the puck and shoots and scores! "Tammy shoots, she scores!" The spokesman says and I jump up with a cheer. But then I notice Tammy get pushed down by McGill. "I'm on coach." Fulton says and I see him go and flip McGill over and I laugh. "You're outta here, son." The ref says and he takes him away. "I'm off coach." Fulton says. "He barely touched him!" Dad exclaims.
"Show me the flying ''V.''" Dad says and I nod in agreement. I grab my helmet and my stick. "Let's get a line change! Let's go!" Dad exclaims and the ones playing came back and we went over to wall and behind our goal. "Come on, y'all, let's go! Come on! Come on!" Jesse exclaims and we get in formation. "Flying ''V''!" Dad shouts and we start. We weave the pucks between us all and we make it in front of the Hawks' goalpost and Jesse scores. We all cheer and hug each other as we skate back to our box.
We all high-fived each other and we all cheered happily. But then they went back on the ice and I stood up. "Woo!" I cheered. It was the final 25 seconds of the game, we were tied, the anxiety was practically eating me alive! "With the score tied 4-4, the next goal will decide the championship. Tremendous pressure. Neither team can afford any mistakes now. Looking for the game-winning goal, here's Morgan moving into the slot. He shoots and a big save." The spokesman says and I cheer and sigh. "Big save, Goldberg! We'll get 'em in overtime!" Dad shouts.
"Score tied at four. Now Averman ahead to Charlie Conway." The spokesman says. "Come on Charlie!" I shout. "Conway to center ice on a breakaway! Conway moving across the Hawk blue line, down the middle! He could win the game!" The spokesman exclaims but Charlie's arm was grabbed and Charlie was spun around, but as he fell the buzzer went off. "Hey! Where's the call?" Dad shouts. "No time left on the clock, but the referee is calling a penalty shot!" The spokesman says and I roll my eyes.
"Coach, penalty shot. Anyone on the ice can take it." The ref says and he skates away. "All right, Ducks, who's gonna take it?" Dad questions. "I think Guy should take it." Connie says. "Me?" Guy questions and everyone nods in agreement. "What about Charlie?" I question. "What about Charlie?" Goldberg questions. "All he does is fan." Peter says. "Let's let him finish what he started." Dad says and I nod in agreement. "Coach, we have a chance to win." Charlie says. "Damn straight we do. Come here. You been practicing that triple deke?" Dad questions.
"Yeah." Charlie says. "Then you're all set." Dad says and I raise a brow. "You may make it, you may not. But that doesn't matter Charlie. What matters is that we're here. Look around. Whoever thought we'd make it this far? One, two, three. Triple deke. Take your best shot." Dad says and I place a hand on Charlie's shoulder. "I believe in you Charlie." I say. "Yeah, win or loose." Dad says. "Thanks, coach." Charlie says and he does our signature handshake and I grin. "Go get 'em." Dad says and Charlie skates through. "All right, Charlie! Let's go Charlie!" We all exclaim and Charlie skates onto the ice.
"Charlie! Charlie! Charlie! Charlie!" We all chant. Charlie then starts skating around the puck and I smile. "Triple deke." mutter as Charlie starts skating towards the goal. The anticipation was killing me. But then he fake out the goalie and scored. We all cheered and I skated out onto the ice and I hugged Charlie tight and eventually we were in a group hug. Then parents came out and so did Fulton. "Woo!" We all cheered, wide grins on our faces. After a few moments of cheering the trophy was presented...It was huge! I stood next to Dad and I grinned up at him and he grinned down at me. "Ducks! Ducks! Ducks! Ducks!" We chanted.
