Hawks sped through the air, rage and fear racing all over his body.
"Can't I go any damn faster!?" Hawks yells at himself. He knew what he was doing was stupid, reckless, and would probably end with a possible restraining order and Fuyumi never wanting to see him again. But the rising anger and hurt in his chest would not subside.
His previous conversation with Tokoyami played in his mind as he flew above the streets, high enough to not hit any street lights or people, low enough to make a quick landing and bolt through the Todoroki household. He couldn't deal with Tokoyami avoiding his questions, not telling him the truth, hiding from him.
Although Hawks knew he wasn't mentally prepared to see what would be coming, he went anyway.
"I don't know what you're talkin-"
"Don't try that with me, you know I can read you in an instant, who is Chi-chi?" Hawks spits, cutting off Tokoyami. They had been going back and forth for almost 15 minutes, the conversation going nowhere.
In his mind, the worst-case scenario was taking place.
Fuyumi has moved onto someone else.
"I told you already, I don't know! Even if I did, it's not my place to speak on it!" Tokyami fires back, causing Hawks to flinch a little. Tokoyami felt guilty for lying to his mentor, but he knew he was already in the wrong for letting it slip that she was back in town. The least he could do was respect Fuyumis wish of Hawks not knowing about Chi-chi - even if she is his daughter.
"Don't treat me like a fool, what do you mean it's not your place?! You know something, I know you do! Who did you see that night when you went to the house?!"
Put me out of my misery already, tell me she's moved on, stop dragging this out.
"I didn't see anyone or anything!"
"Don't lie! You wouldn't talk about this 'not my place to say' crap if you didn't know something was going on with her!" A tense silence fell between the pair, while Dark Shadow looked between both of them helplessly, upset at their heated exchange. "You read through me, you know I still love her, so why can't you tell me what you know?"
Tokoyami keeps his focus on the city below, determined to not say a word.
"Please," Tokoyami tenses up hearing his voice crack, "Is there someone else with her now?" No noise came from either of them, making it clear to Hawks that Tokoyami wasn't going to say anything.
"You know what... I don't give a damn, I'll go see for myself." A gush of wind whipped Tokoyami in the face, he knew Hawks had left to go to Fuyumi. He didn't have the heart to stop him, feeling completely and utterly useless. He couldn't bring himself to convince him to stay after hearing the pain in his voice, he knew if he spared Hawks a glance he might've cracked. But what was the point in all that resistance if he was going to let him go anyway?
"Oi, shouldn't we be stopping him!? This is bad!" Dark Shadow cries worriedly.
"No, this is probably best... I just hope they both forgive me."
Hawks felt the nervousness in himself climb ten-fold when the house came into view. He had been so driven by frustration that he barely realised what he was about to do. He lands on top of a roof of a house nearby and stares ahead.
What the heck am I doing, he thinks to himself. I left, and now I'm back, why? Because I know she's with another man? Even though his damn name is Chi-chi? What kind of name is that anyway?
