"Hawks," he breathes.
"Hawks? What's a Hawks?" Chi-chi asks, looking back and forth at Tokoyami and her mother. Hearing his name come out of her daughter's mouth makes her feel like she can't breathe. She felt like everything she had been doing for the past two years was crumbling in front of her. She knew it was foolish to try and make up a story to tell Tokoyami, so she put herself together as best she could and invited him in. She prepared some tea for herself and Tokoyami, while Chi-chi sat in her lap, finally drinking her milk.
"I'm sorry for keeping you, I just didn't wanna send you off when you've seen...her."
"It's fine...h-how have you been?"
"Uh, despite everything that went down...I honestly think I'm doing pretty well." Tokoyami nodded his head and sipped his tea. An awkward silence fell between the two, causing Tokoyami to address the elephant (or the hawk) in the room.
"He doesn't know...does he?" Fuyumi became embarrassed and hid her face in Chi-chi's hair.
"No, he doesn't."
"Figured. Why haven't you told him?" Tokoyami watches her lift her head and is greeted with a sad expression.
"I tried, I promise I did. I probably could've done more, but it was exhausting. H-He broke up with me the day I was gonna tell him I was pregnant..." Fuyumi cringes at the memory. "I tried to catch him at his agency, and I rang every day for almost a month...but then I just grew tired. My mindset was really really bad, and I wasn't thinking about her or my wellbeing." She glances down at Chi-chi who gives her a sleepy smile. She turns her around and holds her so her chin is resting on her shoulder. She pats her back gently until she hears a small whisper.
"Night mama, I love you."
"Night baby, I love you most," She whispers back. She looks up at Tokoyami who gives a look of sympathy to her.
"I'm sorry for what he did...for what Hawks did to you both."
"Don't say that, it's not your fault...He fell out of love with me, and I wanted him to stay. It was cruel of me to try and do such a thing."
'Fell out of love with you? If only you knew Fuyumi...' Tokoyami thought to himself.
"Tokoyami."
"Hm?"
"I need you to do me a favour."
"Sure..."
"You can not tell Hawks about Chi-chi." His name felt so sour on her tongue.
"Wha-"
"I mean it." Tokoyami watched the kindness on her face vanish, it was as if talking about Chi-chi brought out a different side in her.
"It'll be hard to lie to him, but I'll do what I can..."
"P-Please Tokoyami. I know he deserves to know, but I don't want her to get her hopes up about finally having a dad, only for him to be angry or disappointed...I can't do that her to her, or me." The fierce look on her face was replaced with one of desperation and sadness.
"I understand." Tokoyami looks at the clock on the wall and stands up. "I left the files on the living room table...if Endeavor needs to go over anything just tell him to contact Hawks. I'll leave now, thank you for the tea." Fuyumi gives him a faint smile before walking him to the door.
"Be safe."
"Take care Fuyumi, and Chi-chi," he fights back the smile that comes to his face and starts to make his way home.

HAWKS:
Hey, how'd it go delivering the files? Sorry I made ya do that last minute...
TOKOYAMI:
It's okay, I got home an hr ago. Everything went well.
HAWKS:
Eh? An hr ago? How much time did you spend at the Todoroki house? lol
TOKOYAMI:
Shoto answered the door and let me in. We just talked about school stuff.
HAWKS:
Ahh, fair enough. Well, I appreciate ya doing that for me. You should probably get some sleep in now, we got an early shift tomorrow
TOKOYAMI:
Right. I'll see you tomorrow Hawks.
HAWKS:
See ya then fellow birdman!
TOKOYAMI:

Hawks chuckled while shutting off his phone. He plopped down on his bed, stomach down and stretched his wings out.
"Talked about school stuff with little Shoto, eh? I don't see how the two most aloof guys in that whole school managed to keep a conversation going for more than 5 minutes...But I can always question him on it tomorrow," Hawks whispers to himself.
