Emi enjoys every bit of her time in the hospital-not as a patient, as a visitor. Not that she knew anyone personally when she first started this said to be-strange mission-approximately a year back, but sure, she had made plenty friends by now. The patients she visited comes and goes, rooms replaced by new patients every once in a while when she's just starting to feel connected with them. It might be a good sign though. Patients leaving the hospital can always mean two-or more-things; they're cured or worst-possibly dead. But even the pain on someone's death doesn't change her mind on how grateful she felt for being there for those people-even when their blood relatives weren't.
"Neko-chan," said Emi by the slightly opened door, "may I come in?" The young boy looks delighted, his eyes bloomed in joy, "Emi-san!" Emi's heart fluttered as she walked in with a wide smile painted in her face, "You didn't tell me today's your day off too!" Emi grinned with one hand scratching the back of her neck, "Well usually it's not, the school is currently renovated so I'll be off for about a week now." Kaneko nodded.
Emi took the flowers from the vase and change it with the lilies she just brought. As she did, the boy asked, "Is that a new kind of flower? I've never seen it." Emi nodded, "Do you like it? It's my favorite." Kaneko nodded excitedly, "It's mine too then." Emi brought the vase closer to the boy for him to see, "They say it's one of the longest to wither." The boy formed a soft smile, "They're beautiful."
Kaneko Akiyama may only be 11, but with all the things he experienced it is only appropriate to treat him like equals. Emi couldn't even imagine herself standing on his shoes, spending all his days in the hospital without any parent at that very young age. Most would consider him 'lucky' that he survived such horrible incident that took both his parents away, but Emi couldn't-he suffer too much to be considered one-yet he's still a lovable boy.
"Emi-san," called Kaneko softly as his eyes continue to treasure the vase Emi is holding. Emi hummed as she did the same. "Do you know there's a patient next door?" Emi raised an eyebrow as the corner of her eye lay a gaze at Kaneko-questioning, "You mean Aiko-san?" The boy faintly shook his head, "She left hospital two days ago."
"Really?" Emi leaned at the backrest of the chair she's sitting on as she stared straight at Kaneko who's currently sitting on the edge of his hospital bed, "I didn't know that." Kaneko nodded. "I didn't either," he mentioned, "until this morning." Emi nodded then stood to place the vase up the table at the corner of the room.
"Emi-san," he called again. Emi turned back, "You still want to see it?" Kaneko shook his head. His eyes glared a tease, "I think it's a 'he'." Emi rolled her eyes and sat back. Kaneko grinned.
"You should visit him sometimes, maybe give him some of those," he meant the flowers, "I don't see anyone with him today, he might be lonely." Emi knew where this is going, Kaneko trying to match her up with a patient isn't a one time thing. She grinned anyway. Despite everything, she vowed her early self to be there for the patients in this hospital. "Maybe," she replied, looking through the glass see-through walls showing a dark room next to Kaneko's. The patient might be asleep by now, "maybe tomorrow."
