Could it be...?

You wake up the next day to find Luna already awake and gone. She usually wakes up earlier than you, so it's not really a surprise, but it is still disappointing. But hey, last night still left you in an amazing mood. You get up and start getting dressed. Still no sign of her. You brush your hair and teeth. Still nothing. She's probably just early to class. Whatever. You gather your books and homework and walk alone to class. You didn't see her in the corridor either. That's also kind of really weird. Is she okay? Is Draco bullying her again? What in the world is going on with Luna?

When you get to class, you see her, but she's not in her normal seat. As long as she is okay, the chair she's in does not matter in the slightest. You shrug off any worries and sit next to her.

"Hey babe!" You say, giving her a hug from the side and a quick kiss on the cheek so the teacher won't notice. You know, their weird grudge against PDA and everything. Anyway...

"Hello darling." She responds with a kind smile. She holds your hand under the table where no one can see. You smile to yourself as well. God, this girl is amazing.

Throughout class, you guys didn't really talk, but that one is normal. After class on your way to second period, you asked her about this morning.

"I just had some family issues to take care of. It's kind of a long story... I will tell you later, alright? It is just normal stuff most families go through, but it will still take a while to explain in full." She answers. Seems probable enough to you. Well, not the normal family thing, but everything else. Nothing about Luna or her family is normal. But hey, that IS part of the appeal. Normal people are kind of boring, and are generally less kind, compassionate, and loving.

"Alright cool. We can just talk about it at lunch, for sure. I hope it gets resolved as soon as possible though. It must be pretty stressful, especially with school and social life too." You say, hoping to be as caring as her, because god knows she deserves it.

"I hope so too, though I believe that I can handle the stress. I've been through far worse before." Poor Luna. She's been though so much her whole life. She deserves so much better. Although, it appears her life has been taking a turn for the better lately.

"Well, I still hope you don't have to do it anymore. I love you, and I know that you deserve better. I will help you with anything you need help with, as long as you are willing to talk to me, alright?" You ask.

"Of course, (nickname) I know I can trust you." She says, but she doesn't seem to be mentally all here. It is most likely just her family problems, so it probably doesn't mean anything. Your next classes go by the exact same with nothing super eventful happening. Then lunch rolls around.

"So, do you want to talk about the  family issues that you mentioned earlier?" You ask her, trying to act all casual even though you were absolutely dying to know and be able to help her on the inside.

"Honestly, I am a bit confused myself, but I think that my father has lost his job. That was his only source of income. He does not know if he was truly removed from the company or not yet though. There were many confusing miscommunications. It should be okay though. I am mostly sure that it was just that. Miscommunications."

No! What if he did lose his job though? What will happen to Luna? Will she even be able to afford to come to Hogwarts anymore? This just can not happen! It's alright... the Lovegoods could just move in with the Weasley's, or even you if absolutely necessary. Everything will be just fine.

"All right, well I'm happy that you're probably fine. And hey, if it's not, you know you can always count on me to find a way for things to work out."

"Mhm..." She hums. What is up with her? She's acting way more distant that usual. Either the situation with her dad is worse that she's letting on, or something else is happening entirely. The Quibbler came out as normal today, but they have other editors, so that doesn't really mean all that much. It's probably nothing.

The rest of the day goes by without any meaningful conversation from Luna. At dinner, Cho pulls you aside while Luna is distracted by her book.

"Uh what's up?" You ask, kind of confused. You and Cho don't really ever talk so it is a little weird that she decided to talk to you out of no where. It does seem important though, so she's definitely worth listening to right now.

"You and Luna are like... a thing right?" She asks. It's weird that she feels like she has to. It's obvious, right? Plus, neither of you are hiding it.

"Yeah, why?"

"I don't want to get in the middle of anything, but I heard her saying she loved some guy earlier. I didn't recognize him, but you deserve to know." Your heart sinks into the floor. That's not even a possibility, right? She would never! Right...?

"Oh... thank you for telling me..." You respond, "I think I'm gonna go to the dorm now."

"I don't blame you. Do You want me to talk to her for you?" She offers. It's a kind offer, but Luna most likely won't open up to anyone about it if it is true, which it most definitely is not... right?

"No, I think I'll talk to her tomorrow, but I really appreciate you telling me about it, and the offer. I'll see you later." You walk away before she can object.

Luna would never cheat on someone, right? She's a loyal, faithful, amazing person. But then why has she been acting so distant today? And giving vague answers to everything. But the whole school knows about you two. Draco made sure of that. Nothing is adding up!

Maybe sleeping on it will help. It seems like Luna needs some time either alone or with platonic friends for a while. But, all things considered, so do you. You walk to the Hufflepuff dorm to talk about it with Cho's boyfriends, Cedric. He was one of your first ever friends at Hogwarts, so it makes sense that he's the first one you go to. Hopefully everything will just sort itself out soon.
