A Cat and Mouse Game

I blindly race through the trees away from the prince and the others with my arms still bound behind my back. I'm rather disappointed that a simple kick and jab were all it took to escape their grip, but I'm more disappointed that I had to leave my basket behind. At least they still have Doe in custody. I'll make sure that Obi and I will be in attendance for her big show. Rotten little snitch... I curse as I tumble down a hill and smack into a tree. That's going to feel wonderful tomorrow. I'm way too old for this. As I try to blink away the stars in my eyes, a blurry figure comes into view. I can't see anything for sure, but it looks like...

I wake up with a pounding headache with my hands and feet bound to a chair. That's absolutely wonderful. The prince wouldn't have me secured this way if he were the one to capture me, so who has me? I just wanted breakfast, seriously. Now I don't even have my cigarettes or sword to help deal with this bullshit. I let out a sigh and start to fidget with the ropes around my wrists. Whoever took me is so going to die once I get free. Footsteps draw my attention to the door across the room from me and I let out a small, quiet stream of curses as I jerk at the ropes. They can't die if I'm still bound. The door opens and I lift my gaze out of curiosity.

"What the hell?" I mumble under my breath as they walk into the room.

I meet Reim's eyes as he comes to a stop a few feet away from me. How the hell is Reim standing before me when he's supposed to be dead? I killed him and Kitty confirmed it. I don't understand... but I can't let that confusion show. Beyond the drama that just recently unfolded involving him, I never had to deal with him beyond simply in passing, but I know his type. Any slight show of weakness or vulnerability is just fuel for their sadistic side.

"Hello again Doll." He greets me. "Did you miss me?"

"Gremlin." I shoot back. "Did you crawl out of the depths of Hell just for me? I'm flattered, honestly."

"I wasn't through playing with you, that's all. You were way more fun than I anticipated."

That's unsettling... "I found you rather boring, if I say so myself."

His mouth twists into a cocky smirk as he tilts his head slightly. "I'll have to fix that then, won't I?"

Oh shit... "If you want to play, you'd better give me a fair fight. Release me from the chair."

"I'll take that risk then, Doll. Just know that if you decide to play, I play for keeps. If you lose, you'll never leave this room again."

"Bring it on, Sweetie." I offer him a sickly sweet grin as he cuts the ropes. "I'll rip your throat out."

As the last rope is cut, I flip myself up and over the back of the chair then back away to put some distance between us. I may be free, but I'm nowhere near safe and have no advantage. My body hurts from hitting the tree and I have no weapons and no cigarettes to calm my nerves. I'm just locked in a room somewhere in the world with a very violent, sadistic man with absolutely no idea what he plans on doing to me. This is one of these times when I really want Obi here. All I have to do is keep myself alive long enough to incapacitate him or make it to the door.

"Are you ready, Doll?"

Before I can reply, he knocks the chair aside and walks toward me. I'm not much of a hand-to-hand fighter, and I'm sure he knows that from our last fight at Eiro's. I take a few steps back as I mentally curse myself and think through any plan that could possibly work.

"Come on, make it at least a little interesting." He sighs. "You talked such a big game, but here you are already trying to run."

"Just making a game plan, that's all." I lie as I continue to try to keep distance between us. I have no idea on what to do.

My back hits the wall and in an instant, Reim is a mere breath away from me with his hand wrapped around my throat.

"You're boring me, Doll." He growls as his slender fingers grip tighter. "You won't like it if I'm bored."

I ignore the overwhelming urge to claw at his hand and instead move one of my hands toward the pocket of his coat. I'd seen the outline of a dagger in it when I was still stuck to the chair. My fingers grip the cool metal and I bring it out and stab it into his arm. He drops me but brings his knee up at the same time to slam into my ribs. I hit the floor and try to force air back into my lungs as I fight to get to my feet. I'm not doing so well already. I really don't want to die here, but I might. Reim grabs a handful of my hair and jerks me to my feet before kicking me across the room.

"That was clever, but you're still boring me, Doll." He calls out as he lazily walks toward me with a fresh dagger spinning in his hand.

I grip mine tighter and force myself to stand tall and ready to fight. I rush toward him and meet his blade with mine. I push against it, then fall back and kick him in the chest. It's not much, but it moves him back a few feet away from the door. I take the split-second opportunity to reach the door but as my hand wraps around the knob Reim's arms circle my waist and I'm roughly jerked away from it before my back is slammed against the wall.

"There, now we're having fun," He grins as his dagger traces the artery in my neck. "And it's just the beginning."
