----Obi

"You have a sword, I have one dagger. We'll see who gets out of this alive."

"I'll kill you and I'll cash in the bounties on your friends' heads as well!" He growls and instantly swings at me.

The room sways around me as I dodge his attack. I very well could die, whether by him or by blood loss, I'm not sure, but maybe I can at least take him out with me.

My entire body is protesting every slight movement I make. Every swing just send a jarring pain through me that leaves me gasping for breath. Callia may have been right about me not using pain relievers to temporarily block out the pain. It definitely doesn't feel good, but I can't give up. I have to kill Eiro no matter what.

"You know Obi," He smirks as our blades meet with a deafening screech. "Once I kill you, I'll cash in the bounty on you and the little thief girl upstairs, but I think I'll keep dear sweet Arowen for myself. I'm sure she'd make a wonderful toy and once I get tired of her, I'll cash her in too."

My grip tightens on my dagger and I shove against his sword until he stumbles. I elbow him in the throat before dropping down to sweep his feet. As he falls, I rip the sword from his grip and aim the tip for the hollow of his throat.

"Any last words, Eiro?" My voice comes out a gravely rasp as I will myself to hold out a little while longer.

"You'll never win." He chuckles, then grabs a knife from the corpse beside him and stabs me in the leg. I ignore the pain and instead stomp on his ribcage before bringing the sword home.

Once I'm sure Eiro is dead, I release the sword and dagger, then pull the other one from my leg. I hobble over toward the stairs to go check on the girls since they were left with Reim and Lareth but the world is fading in and out around me. I take a deep ragged breath as I prop myself up against the wall. I'll just wait for things to clear up a little, then I'll go up there. I just hope Arowen is okay. Reim isn't someone to mess with. After waiting for what feels like an eternity, Kitty and Arowen come downstairs relatively unharmed. Through my hazy vision, I can see the thinly concealed concern on Arowen's face so I try to smile at her and crack a joke.

"Took you... long enough." We used to say that anytime one of us had to wait on the other.

I try to get my body to straighten so we can leave, but my legs give out and everything finally goes black.

I wake up on something soft, but the softness doesn't seem to do anything to cut down the unbearable pain my body is in. I slowly force my eyes open so I can study my surroundings at least. My immediate thoughts go to Eiro's hideout since that's where I last remember being, but I'm fairly certain I killed him. I don't think Arowen would have left me there, but knowing her, she likely dragged me across the village by my ankle like she did with the stairs. It's dark, wherever I am, but I can smell the faint scent of tobacco in the room, so she must be here somewhere, that or I'm just in some room of her house.

I blink a few times and I can finally see a little better. I'm in her bedroom I'm guessing. Arowen is curled up in a chair to the right of the bed with her knees to her chest, fast asleep. There are two empty liquor bottles on the table beside her but there's no telling how old they are. Why did she put me here instead of the couch so she could sleep comfortably too? I sigh and take a few calming breaths as I force my body to slowly move until I'm sitting up. The pain is enough to bring stars to my vision, but I push through it until I'm standing, then carefully pick her up and lay her on the bed. She shifts slightly but doesn't wake up, so I cover her with the blankets before inching my way around the bed to the other side. Once I'm back on the bed and able to breathe without feeling my imminent death, I pull the blankets over myself as well then carefully bring her closer to me. I wrap one arm around her before drifting back off to sleep.

When I wake again, Arowen isn't in bed with me but I can hear movement in the room. It takes a while, but I'm able to move until she comes into view. It's daylight now so I can actually see her. She's still in the torn and bloody clothing from Eiro's attack and the blotches I saw the last time that I thought were just bruises are apparently splatters of dried blood as well. She's mumbling curses under her breath as she fumbles with something on the top of the dresser across the room.

"I just need one fucking cigarette... My nerves can't handle this shit. There's got to be tobacco around here somewhere."

She curses a final time before throwing the object in her hand down and running a hand through her hair.

"I need to get back to cleaning... I guess I could sneak away for a moment to get more tobacco... Maybe drinking will help. Stupid Obi..."

"Hey," I call out quietly despite my voice cracking. "I resent that."

"O-Oh, you're awake." She mumbles as she jumps from the sound of my voice. "That's disappointing."

"How long was I out?"

"Three days. You have five sets of stitches, but otherwise you seemed okay."

"What about you?"

"I-I'm fine... I just need a cigarette."

"You're hurt, aren't you?" I sigh at the sheepish look that briefly flickers across her face. "Where are you hurt?"

"I told you I'm fine."

"When you tried to hide injuries back then, you started to clean or work and kept the blood on your skin for a few days in hopes no one would see it. Now, come here."

"I have things to do, Obi. I'm going down to the tavern to get some tobacco."

"Arowen-"

"Listen Obi, I saved your life and allowed you sanctuary in my home, don't press your luck." She cuts me off while avoiding my gaze, then tells me that she'll return in a few minutes. I watch as she picks up a small pouch from the dresser, but she's not using her dominant arm.
