Not Exactly

I can't lose. I can't lose. I can't lose. I have to win this fight against Prince Zen or I'll never get to see Obi again. The idea I had that led up to this was very last second and I wasn't sure that it was even going to work. I didn't have time to think it over or even bring it up to Obi. I'm sure he's going to strangle me for it later, if I make it out of this.

"Are you ready, Molly?"

"I swear, you and Kathlin with those nicknames, Zenny." I sigh. "Regardless, you never ask an opponent if they're ready, you make them ready."

I rush toward Zen with my practice sword poised to attack. He blocks it and swings high, so I duck low and sweep his feet. He jumps it with ease but I take the split second opportunity to kick him in the chest before racing after his body. It's been awhile since I've fought with so much determination, but without fighting to kill. I can't kill the prince, I just have to kick his ass. As his body hits the ground, I bring my foot down on his chest and press the tip of the sword to his throat.

"Give up now and I won't mess up that pretty little face of yours."

"I don't give up that easily." He smirks and pulls a throwing knife from his pocket.

I flip backward out of the way of the wooden blade then lunge toward him again.

Zen makes it to his feet and we quickly find ourselves in a continuous volley of blow after blow whether it's hand-to-hand or weapon against weapon. He's holding up better than I'd expected. Back when I knew him and Izana, Izana's abilities absolutely blew Zen out of the water. I could beat Zen without issue, but I never could quite get past Izana. He's improved a lot though. We may even be evenly matched. I feign an attack on my left but swing right with the sword, striking him hard in the ribs. I bring my leg up in to a roundhouse, making sure my boot hits his ribs where I'd gotten him with the sword. As he struggles to stand, I grab the back of his head and slam it onto my knee. This is far easier than I'd thought.

A curse leaves my lips as I misjudge one of Zen's attacks and I'm knocked back a few feet. We've been fighting for at least an hour now. We're both exhausted but neither of us has given up yet. It won't end until someone gives or one of us is no longer able to fight. He's still going strong, but I can tell that there's a slight fatigue in his movements. He's running out of stamina. It should be over pretty soon. I just pray that it's in my favor. I've gone through enough loss and trauma lately. If I lose this time, it may be the final straw for me. I may not survive my mind if I lose this fight. I have to win. It's not so much a prize for me if I win... This is for Obi. It's all for Obi.

I meet Zen in the middle of the training area and our wooden swords meet each other hard enough to break both of them into splinters. I drop the handle and force my body to move faster and faster as I swing over and over again with my fists. I feel a few land, then more and more as my speed increases. This will be either really productive or really detrimental. This will tire me out rather quickly but he's already growing tired. If I can bring him down quicker than I'm fading, I'll win. If he holds out longer than me, he wins.

I struggle to keep myself standing as Zen tries to catch his breath a few feet away. It's over. It's finally over... I did it. Zen collapsed before I could. I... won. I actually won. Zen sits up finally and looks over at me. I give him a questioning look and he finally nods. I drop the remains of the tenth training sword I'd used in the fight and smile.

"Okay, so she won the fight, what did she win?" Obi snaps.

I'd gotten Zen to agree to let him watch but we didn't allow him to know the details of our wager. I knew he'd try to interfere if we did.

"You can go to her."

Obi reaches me as my legs finally give out and I find myself in his arms again.

"I did it."

"What did you do? What was this bet and why didn't you tell me about it?"

"It was... very last minute." I shrug. "I won though, that's what I did."

"I love you dearly but if one of you doesn't tell me what's going on right now, I will throw you."

"We will discuss it in my office." Zen speaks up as he gets to his feet.

"I guess that's better than nothing..." He grumbles as he helps me stand.

I curl up in one of the chairs across from Zen's desk and sip the glass of wine he offered. Obi is standing behind me, waiting for our explanation. I hold back a chuckle as his fingers tap impatiently on my shoulder.

"Alright Love, I guess we'll tell you before you throw a tantrum. I remembered a favor that Zen owed me from when we were children, then used that to get him to agree to the wager. The wager was the fight, of course. If I won, you would no longer be imprisoned. If I lost, Zen could counteract your bet and I'd surrender willingly. If I lost he would gain control of the estate so long as he kept it under my father's name, so it wouldn't fall to ruin. But I won and you're no longer going to be stuck in a cell."

"So, we're free to go?" Obi asks, the disbelief in his voice apparent.

"Not exactly..."
