Obi---
Arowen told me she thought she loved me after I explained to her what love is. I blink a few times in the darkness to see if perhaps I'd fallen asleep and dreamed it or if she was simply joking but she doesn't say anything further. I ask why she thinks so and she rolls over to face me. She tells me that she'd always felt something toward me that she couldn't explain and she never went to Kitty for help on it. Kitty always teased her by saying that she was in love with me, but with her only experience of seeing love being her awful parents, she always denied it. Her eyes meet mine as I gently brush a section of hair from her face.
"Are you sure that's what you feel?" I ask softly and she nods.
"You're still stupid and I hate you, but yes, I'm pretty sure."
I chuckle and shake my head. "You're sending mixed signals there."
"Shut up." My eyes widen as she grabs the front of my jacket and pulls until our lips meet.
I wake up to find Arowen still asleep beside me with her head on my chest. I slowly move my arms to pull the blankets up further around us then put my arm around her again. I was worried that I'd wake up to her being gone again. I press a kiss to the top of her head before closing my eyes. Maybe I'll get a little more sleep before she wakes up. When I wake up again, she's gone. My thoughts go instantly to what happened before, but I hear movement in the other room at least so I know she's here. That or she's gone and that's a murderer come to claim my soul. I sigh and get to my feet to check on her as I hear a loud thump.
Arowen is in the main room, dressed in a dark colored tank top and tight fitting black pants, with a man pinned to the wall with a dagger to his throat. Her hair is damp so she must have gone out back to the stream to bathe, but that doesn't explain who he is or why he's here.
"I feel like I missed something."
"Oh, you think?" She shoots back and I smirk. "I got it handled, no thanks to you."
"Well, he's still alive so I think you're slacking, Darling."
She jerks the blade across his throat and lets him fall. "You were saying?"
"So, what was his problem?" I ask as I pick up his corpse and haul it outside.
"He decided to use my bath time as a peep show."
"Ohh, well definitely deserved death then. Breakfast?"
Arowen and I leave the diner a short while later and head to the market so there will be food at the house. I watch her as she moves ahead of me with a basket collecting random items. We never officially became anything last night after her confession and the kiss, but we talked for a while about whatever came to mind as I held her, and that's good enough for me. We'll move at her pace, if we move at all. With how headstrong and full of attitude she's been since I've known her, I didn't expect her to be so shy and unknowing when it came to this sort of thing. We never discussed past relationships but I'd assumed she'd had a boyfriend at some point with how beautiful she was.
My eyes wander away from her as I hear the crowd starting to chatter about a prince. I spot him two rows down with his attendants. It's the younger Clarines prince. I don't think I've seen the older one out of the castle beyond traveling to different destinations, never in public like this. If the market wasn't so packed and focused on them, and I wasn't miserably sore still, I'd get her attention and we'd see what mischief we could get into.
"Damn it Obi, how fucking useless are you?" I hear just before an apple sails at my head.
I catch it and turn back to Arowen who is currently being manhandled by a man in a bear mask. Great, The Pack is annoying us again. At least it's not the twins. If they cause too much of a scene, the prince may get involved and the three of us will end up getting very comfy with some rope accessories. I frown and cast a glance at the prince before moving swiftly through the market after the bear as he drags her away. He's smart enough to know the risk I guess.
When we're in the forest just outside of the market, I draw a dagger and throw it. It strikes him in the center of his spine and he hits the ground. He'd drugged her with a vial of some sort of powder he shoved under her nose so he was carrying her over his shoulder. Thankfully when he got hit, he dropped her before he fell so she didn't get hurt beyond the possible bumps from being dropped.
"Really? Did you really think you'd get very far with her?" I ask as I walk toward him with a dagger.
He lets out a short, shrill whistle and the forest comes alive around me as a dozen Pack members come out of the trees. That's great. I quickly kill Bear before moving to protect Arowen. She's starting to wake up thankfully but I don't know how badly that powder will have her messed up.
"So... I guess you heard about the bounties, right?"
The people in front of me move out of the way to reveal a dark haired woman wearing the mask of a doe. I don't see the twins anywhere, she must be the new leader.
"Sorry Love, it's just business. You understand, right?" She says. "If you play nice, I won't kill her immediately and I'll even let you say goodbye to each other. Such a shame to lose such a handsome face though. I may keep you a little while longer."
"What the hell is going on?" Arowen grumbles and I help her to her feet.
"Well, The Pack wants to kill us for our bounties, that's all."
"That's pleasant. You're not exactly in the best shape right now."
"Don't worry, I'll take good care of him. Why don't you just back down now Sweetheart, you're not going to win."
Arowen lights a cigarette as she stares Doe down. "Bring it on, Bitch."
