I screamed angry that he hadn't even lasted a day. So in utmost revenge, I did the exact same thing to him. I bit him in the neck, but when I did, I suddenly heard a voice in my head. It sounded sweet as honey, but still had a bit of roughness to it. I let go in shock, and slumped against Mateo suddenly weak in the knees. "Like what you hear Heather." I stared up at Mateo shocked. He was in my head, talking to me. "I must be going crazy." but I was only met with a simple "Nope," in my head.

I then passed out due to the sudden weakness I felt all over my body. All I could make out before completely drowning in darkness was a "Shit. Heather!

Everything was so dark around me. I tried to lift one of my arms, but it felt like a cement block. I even tried to pry open my eyes, but they wouldn't budge. All I could hear were gentle beeps in the background, and a hand resting mine. I so badly wanted to squeeze there hand, reassure them I was okay, but I didn't know if I was okay. A clear voice, that sounded like a soft wind spoke beside me. "Come, my darling homeward bound, when all is lost, then all is found." It was gramp's. He was singing my favorite song from Frozen 2. But a gruff voice, that sounded like the person had been crying nonstop had snapped at him.

"Oh shut up old man! This is not a singing matter!" That voice could only belong to Mateo. I heard a sudden 'whack' go throughout the room. Gramps had smacked Mateo hard across the head, I just knew it. It was his way of saying 'this is a teaching moment dimwit.' I could only chuckle in my head, at the action I was imagining. That image I was creating in my head had brought up a memory from long ago.

It was my fifth birthday, gramps and uncle Rusty had decided to take me for a hike down one of the many pack trails. I was holding my uncles hand, enjoying the outdoors, as grandpa trailed behind us. I was looking up at the birds, not watching where I was going, and tripped on a rock, falling to the ground. I realized I had scrapped my knee, and started to cry. My uncle panicked, saying we had to go back home right away, but my gramps wasn't having any of it. He picked up his hiking stick and  whacked my uncle across the head as he said, "this will be a learning moment for you dimwit." He had then grabbed his water canister, poured some water on my knee before inspecting a leaf that he had torn off a tree nearby. He took a thin twig and started to rub the leaf, making some sort of paste. He then placed it on my knee as a temporary band-aid, before picking me up and carrying me on his shoulders the rest of the day.

After that memory played through my mind, I knew that what ever was going to happen from this day on, gramps would be there to lead the way until he couldn't. After I had dwelled on the past for a bit longer, I felt a tiny bit better, so I decided to try and open my eyes again. Once doing so, I was met with a harsh white light. I lifted my left arm, trying to shield my eyes, but I only hissed in pain, as my shoulder burned. I carefully looked to my right, seeing my grandpa smiling at me. "There you are my little swan. You really gave everyone a fright." He stated while patting my hand. Mateo came into view, and I glared at him. Gramps looked between us, excusing himself from the room.

Mateo shuffled from foot to foot, nervous. He took a seat seeing as his body language wasn't helping the situation. I assessed Mateo closely, watching for any signs of a sudden outburst, but none came. I looked Mateo straight in the eyes, saying the first thing that came to mind. "You marked me." Mateo was silent but nodded in response. I didn't know what else to say, so I decided to assess my own situation.

I looked around the room, realizing that I must be in the pack hospital. I looked down at my left arm, it looked fine on the outside, so I travelled my eyes up to my shoulder. There, in the crevasse of my shoulder was a swirling black pattern. It looked like two vines of leaves intertwining with each other. The side that ran down the back part of my shoulder had moon shaped leaves, while the front side had leaves in the shape of a sun. When the two vines connected in the center, the sun and moon shaped leaves came together, to form a shape that looked like both, but neither one bigger than the other. They were symbolizing that they were equals.
