Mateo's POV
I ran out of our bedroom, instantly calling for my uncle and beta. I ran when Heather told me who Gamma Ray's wife was. My uncle knew everything about his youngest sister. He would have the answers I'm looking for. I kept running, out the front door, down the path, and towards the area I know he is in. Its Saturday, so he should be in the art house, making his stupid pottery.
I burst through the doors, huffing and puffing, trying to catch my breath. "UNCLE!" I call out in desperation. Then I see him run around the corner. His eyes full of worry and concern. "What's the matter Mateo?" He asks, his voice laced with dread as if someone died.
I breathed in, almost dreading what I am about to say. "I need you to tell me everything about Auntie Emily." My uncle looked at me confused. He gestured for me to sit, so I did, anxious to know everything.
"Why are your curious all of a sudden?" He questioned with wide eyes. I leaned forward, resting my elbows on my knees as I spoke. "Because I need to know Randal. It will help keep Heather safe."
Uncle ran a hand down his face before speaking. "Alright. But remember, you asked for it." I nodded my head for him to continue.
"Your Auntie Emily was one of the sweetest people to ever walk Riverstone. She obeyed every order, helped every person in need, and still made time for family. When it came to the mating trials, she was one of the best. But, when it came down to her getting chosen, it was almost heart breaking. She was chosen by a man that was basically a walking history book. He was from Eridanus Pack, and he was the first Gamma in history. His name was Ray Norman." He paused there, gathering his thoughts, while also trying not to cry.
"I knew that Emily was seeing him in secret before the mating trails. They had met on the border. Emily had always called it the kings corner. But when I had met Ray for the first time, he said they had met at the swans nest. I was so confused, but I didn't ask. Years went by after that, and I only ever heard from Emily once a month. She called twice one month, but that was to tell me that my nephew was born. Ryker Randal Ray Norman. I never got to see him because Ray kept them away." Uncle was choking back sobs at this point.
"Then it came to the day where Eridanus was slaughtered. Everyone was killed the same way, but no one had marks on there face so they could be identified. I found your aunt. Killed right outside her house. I never found Ray or Ryker, but I just thought they were somewhere else. We buried everyone, made everyone head stones, or carved the date into headstones that already had there names on them. Then, we went into houses, I mainly just went to Emily's to gather her things. I took everything of hers and even Ryker's things, but I never touched Ray's. He was a cruel man. He took my sister away from me, and I can never forgive him for that. Even if he is dead." Then he went silent.
I took everything in, like a sponge soaking up water. We both stayed silent for what felt like hours, but it was probably only twenty minutes. I then opened my mouth, relaying the information I knew. "Uncle, Ray isn't dead. And I don't think Ryker is either. Ray called Heather on my cell today. He scared her so much, that she fainted. Ray knew Heather, and is wanting to finish the job he started. Ray went rogue, and I think he took his son with him. That's why there bodies were never found Randal. They are still alive, taunting all of us."
My uncles eyes grew to the size of saucers. I could tell what he was thinking. Something clicked within his mind. "That boy who was at our borders, he looked a lot like Ray. But his eyes, oh his eyes were as kind as Emily's, and the same shade of bright silver as hers too. That boy was Ryker." I nodded my head confirming what he had just spewed.
Everything was coming together, but one thing didn't make sense. "Where is the spot that Ray and Emily met uncle?" I asked. He looked at me, and thought hard. "They met right where the new path is."
I stood up quickly, thanking my uncle for everything. I then bolted back to Heather to tell her everything. When I got back home, Heather was sitting in the kitchen, drinking a cup of tea.
She was talking on the phone with someone. I noticed she doesn't do that to often. I walked up behind her, snaking my arms around her waist, calming my heart in the process. "Oh come on Stella. It's not like he's going out and buying you an expensive gift. Randal is basically making you a full dining set that you don't have to pay for. I think its sweet." Heather said into the line.
So she's talking to Stella. A nice little chat with her new best friend is nice. It made me smile. I decided to leave Heather alone while she chatted. I kissed her neck, where her mark was, before making my way to the stairs. I motioned that I would be up in our room, having a shower. She smiled at me and mouthed 'okay'. I headed upstairs, dreading each step because I was afraid of what I was going to tell her later.
I sure hope this ends soon, because I swear I am developing grey hairs already, and we haven't even had kids yet. Bless my soul, because I am definitely not on a roll with this.
