"Almost there, keep talking Heather, don't pass out." I heard Mateo say. "Uh..... I have always really liked the color blue, and the simple fashion from the 1950's. When I was 3 I really wanted a dog, but never got one..... I learned not long ago, that.... I.... was.... going to.... be a..... big sist-" And then it went dark.

Mateo's P.O.V

My mind went silent. I couldn't hear Heather anymore, which scared me. The fear made me run faster, to the point I had run two hours worth in 5 minutes. In the back of my head, my wolf was howling in despair.  My mind and body was swirling in panic. Nothing was making sense except that Heather was in need, and I was still no where close to getting to her. As I ran, it was like the world was going by in slow motion. I only passed 2 people so far, and they weren't even doing the work they were hired to do.

I kept pushing forward, knowing that my mate was passed out on the forest floor. I kept passing by more people. At least these ones were working. Some looked in my direction but I didn't have time to talk to them.

"Get. to. Heather. GO!" My wolf screamed in my head. This caused me to see black for a moment. I think he's more worried than I am, and I am extremely worried. Suddenly my body didn't feel like my own. I looked down and saw paws of gold and tan. I then looked up again, suddenly being attacked by a scent so strong, it basically pushed me back. The scent lightly smelled of wet earth mixed with jasmine, but a heavy scent of blood could be smelt as well. I knew right then that it was Heather.

I pounded on all fours, growling to get the others on the path to move. I  knew I was getting closer as the smell became stronger. The crowd of workers was getting thicker as well, but I pushed through in my wolf form. At the last minute I grabbed the first person I saw so they could help me. The screamed in pain and surprise, for my teeth were ripping into there arm. I didn't care, I was so focused on my mate. I kept running like my life depended on it.

Finally I saw something in the near distance. The smell that followed what I saw was confirmation enough. It was my poor Heather. The man I had dragged with me gasped, "Alpha Female!?" I let him right then. He ran over right away, moving logs off of her fast but careful. Every time he moved a log, I looked at that spot on Heather's body. Where her clothes weren't covering, I could see the bruises that started to form. I whimpered in fear and sadness, while I carefully laid beside her. I was scared that I didn't make it in time, but I was also scared that when she called for help, the people behind her just ignored it.

''Alpha, I'm going to remove the bear trap now." The man I brought said. I just kept looking at my mate, not wanting to tear my eyes away from her. I heard the definite clank of the trap being opened, and carefully pried off Heather's leg. No movement came from her, and that scared me even more. Then I heard something rip which caught my attention. I looked at the man to see he had ripped his shirt to make some bandages for my sweet girls wound. I watched while he wrapped her leg carefully, but still made sure it was tight. Then he picked her up and placed her on my back. I knew he had a rope on his belt when I grabbed out of the group, so I wasn't surprised that he used it to secure her to me.

Once everything was set and I had Heather secured to me, I all but bolted to the pack hospital on my land. I ran and ran and ran until we made it back. I was howling as I went, alerting as many people as  I could.  And it worked, for when we arrived at the hospital Heather's doctor was waiting for us with a gurney and some nurses. I skidded to a halt in front of them. They worked quickly, getting her off of me and into the sterile building. I then spotted Randal running up the sidewalk. His face was covered in worry, but he had what I needed. When he got to me I shifted back to my human form. I put on the sweats he handed me, grabbed the items he had in his hands and ran after the health care workers attending to the woman I cared so deeply about.

I was almost to the room but a nurse stopped me, claiming she needed to know what happened. "Stella, please not now. I need to be with Heather." I growled at her. She only glared at me, not budging. "Listen here mister. This is part of my job. I need to know what happened so we can put it in her chart." At this point I couldn't argue with her. I ran my hand through my hair while telling her all that I knew. "I'm scared that I didn't get to her in time, and that I lost her. I can't lose her yet Stella, I just got her." I broke down, falling to the floor, letting the tears run down my face.

Stella crouched in front of me as I cried. She rested her hand on my shoulder, making me look up. "Mateo everything will be alright. Want to know how I know that?" I nodded my head, urging her to continue. "Your mate mark is still on your shoulder. Its as dark and vibrant as the day it appeared." She said while giving me a knowing smile. I let the breath I was holding out. Relieved that everything was going to be okay for now.

Heather will be okay, and that's all I could ask for right now.
