Alone. That is what I am going to be in a months time. When I first arrived here, it was February 26th, now its March 5th. So on April first I will take Grandpa home, and we will spend the week there. I will bury him by his mate and my parents, and then I will truly be alone. No more family and no more pack. I will be alone for the rest of my life.
Mateo's POV
Heather's grandpa took me outside her room, explaining that when she got like this, it was better to leave her alone. She would talk when she was ready. I just sighed, feeling that I had failed her. I knew nothing when it came to her. Her gramps must have noticed my body language and spoke up.
"Mateo, you must understand that this is going to be the biggest learning experience of your life. The first few things I've noticed though, is that you started to learn how to make Heather relax, and how to really deal with her anger/cockiness combination of emotions. Its a good start. But you must realize its also who she is. She got that from her father." He chuckled at the last part. Then he handed me a piece of paper. I looked down to see it was a list of places that would need to be built on Eridanus Pack land if Heather wanted to rebuild the pack, and a supply list of what to build them with.
One thing caught my eye when I read it over, and that was 'Man Power'. I read the note at the bottom, completely understanding what that meant. "So... Everything is to be built with these supplies?" I asked confused at the aspect of it. Heather's gramps just looked at me strangely before answering. "I'm old, I can't remember everything. Do research on the tools you'll need to build like a pioneer. Knowing Heather, she might figure it out as she goes."
I nodded my head in response. I won't force Heather into disbanding her home pack. If she wants to rebuild the Eridanus Pack, I will try to support her as best I can. She is the Alpha at any rate. And, if she wants to have kids, depending on the number she wants, we could each name one as Alpha of each pack. We are already making history in both being Alphas and mates, while basically running two packs. We would be the first packs to have alliances through high ranking family members.
Then an idea came to mind. I quickly linked all the retired master builders, giving them orders to start construction on Eridanus land. The only thing they had to do first was to cut down and build a path between our two lands as we are only four hours apart. Then, the trees they would cut down could be used to build everything. I was going to start this project, as a gift to Heather.
In the whole process, I even linked the master builders wives. I gave them the job to clean the Alpha's house.. They had to dust, wash, demold and pack all the belongings into boxes, but they had to keep the office untouched. That would be Heather's domain to touch.
I was startled out of my thoughts when I heard a soft "Mateo." being called. I ran right back into Heather's' room. The sight that greeted me was heart wrenching. Heather had tears running down her face, her hair was even more disheveled, and she had her knees curled up into her chest. I took long fast strides over to her. Sitting down on the bed, I grabbed her in my arms, and held her as she softly sobbed.
We sat like that for ten minutes, before she spoke up in a whisper. "I'm going to be alone Mateo." I sighed, broken by her words. But I decided to get my thoughts off my chest.
"Heather, you will never truly be alone. Your grandfather will be with you just like your parents and uncle are with you. You have me now as well, and I'll be here as long as you need me. And, if it helps, I wouldn't be opposed to naming one of our kids after him, that is if you want kids. If we do have more than one, we could each name one alpha of our packs. I will be open to doing what ever you want. I'm trying to be a good mate, and hopefully one day you'll accept me, just like I accept you, all flaws and perfections."
Once I said the last part, I was her beautiful gold and blue eyes light up. A soft, genuine smile graced her natural pink lips, which made me smile in return. But the next thing that came out of her mouth, made me smile like the sun on a clear day.
"I also accept you Mateo, flaws and perfections." What followed after those words was a light giggle, that made my heart flutter. "I am going to say this now though. I do want kids, but I am not naming one of them Eridanus. It would be weird to keep that family name going when I am not the male holding that name. But, we could start a new family name. I wouldn't be opposed to naming one of our kids after you, if we have a boy." I nodded my head in complete understanding, but still shocked at her statement.
"If we have a boy, you want him to be named Mateo Harley Cepheus II?" I asked. She shook her head yes, "We could call him MJ for short."
After that, we continued talking, just to get to know each other. We talked for hours, well mainly Heather did, but I didn't mind. I learned that every Cygnus child learned how to hunt and use the materials around them to survive. The youngest was always taught by the oldest surviving elder. It was quite fascinating really. I also learned that they spent the longest time in Montana, before travelling back up north to Saskatchewan.
Around 5:30 in the evening the doctor came in to look over Heather. He got her to move her left side in a variety of ways to check her mobility. When he was satisfied that she wasn't in any pain he told her that she could be discharged early. All he had to do before she could leave, was take out her IV and catheter. I watched him remove the IV, but when it came to the catheter I looked away scowling. I was not going to watch him take that out. I didn't trust myself in not ripping him apart.
"Alright Luna you-" I interrupted him right there. "Alpha Female." I growled out. He didn't even bat an eye. "My apologies Alpha Female. You are now free to go, but take it easy for a few day okay." Heather just nodded her head of beautiful black her in response. The doctor bowed and walked out, leaving us alone. Once he was out the door Heather basically bounced out of bed grinning like a mad person.
"Lets go home Mateo. I can smell veal being cooked from here." She said. Her eyes basically twinkling like giant stars. I chuckled at her, enjoying her new set of emotions I haven't had a chance to see before. Quickly, I hauled Heather over my shoulder, jogging out of the hospital. Her pure laughs were all I could hear. Once we got outside, I set her on the ground, letting her bare feet touch the soil. I wrapped my arm around her waist as we walked in the direction that she said the smell of cooked veal was coming from.
As we walked, I couldn't help but keep looking at Heather. She was just so perfect. Her height, body shape, hair, eyes, everything. I didn't even care that she liked to walk around in bare feet. As if Heather knew I was staring at her, she stopped. She turned her small frame towards me, looking straight up at me. "I know your staring, and I know what your unintentionally thinking. So, as the song lyrics go 'Are you gonna kiss me or not?'"
When those sweet words flew from her mouth, I could only oblige. So I bent my six foot two inch body down to her five foot frame, and connected our lips together. Our lips moved in sync, like two puzzle pieces fitting in the right places. Her arms found there way around my neck, while my other arm wrapped around her waist. We kissed for what felt like hours, but in reality it was only a few minutes. I broke the kiss, leaning my head against hers. We were breathing heavy, but smiles graced our faces. This turned out to be a great day after all.
We decided it was high time to get some food in our bellies, so Heather lead the way once more, but never really leaving my side in her excitement, as she let me keep my arm around her waist. Once we got to a house, that I recognized as her gramps, she maneuvered us to his back yard. What I saw next made my stomach growl and had Heather basically drooling. It was a fully cooked meal of veal, carrots, potatoes with bacon bits and a pie for dessert. Her gramps looked up at us and smiled. "Come eat, its ready."
And we did just that. We sat around the fire, filling our bellies with the vast array food in front of us. Heather ate more than both of us men. Her only excuse was, 'I'm starving, and its my favorite.' She devoured a whole bowl of potatoes by herself, before even touching anything else. Eridanus just smiled at her, chuckling at her antics while muttering under his breath, "The only was she will ever eat side pork." I stared at him, but he only met my eyes with that mischievous glimmer.
They are definitely from the same family alright.
