The automatic sliding door opened upon my exiting and I walked slowly through the security center escorted by Reckt and a few other guards who had been waiting outside the whole time. I didn't want to go back into the cell blocks. They were too dangerous. Especially with the possibility that there were probably hundreds of bounty hunters sitting outside the security center door. Whatever, I had to die sometime. The final door swung open and I witnessed something definitely unexpected. Thousands of guards it looked like swarmed the halls and pushed prisoners in their cells throughout the entire mile long halls. After a minute, no one remained on the outside but me, Reckt, and every other guard in this building. Once done, each guard stood up against the walls. It was a line of the highest ranked guards and they were letting me walk through safely. I looked down and it was never ending. One after the other, all leading up to my cell.
Reckt caught up to my side and got extremely close. Close enough to whisper something, which she did.
"Still regretting?"
"It has eased back a little."
She laughed and gestured towards my cell.
"Well, go ahead."
I began to walk down the long halls when Reckt stopped me one last time.
"Remember, when you have a problem, we have a problem. You're a part of us now. You need something, you find Dynam, you find me, you find a guard. You're a ruler of a block. One of the highest authorities there is that grants many freedoms. Don't take an advantage of it. Now the prison will stay like this until we find a way to get that bounty off your head. Now get some rest."
I nodded my head in response and began walking slowly past every guard and glancing at the prisoners who were locked up craving for a piece of me. I wouldn't let them have me. I wasn't just a price you could put out. I was someone and as long as I remained human, I was unable to simply be bought.
"Stand tall!" One of the guards yelled through the halls which startled me making me jump. Once said, every time I passed a group of them, they would aim their guns to the air and bow their heads while standing completely straight. I felt honored.
Once at the end of the halls, passed the rec center, the cafeteria, I met up with my room where Dynam stood at the outside of it.
"What are you doing here?" I asked him.
"With the prison being under high priority maximum lock down, due to your bounty. All prisoners must be locked up by a serving guard on sight."
I was a bit confused. He knew he could trust me, I worked for him. Besides, I was the one who had the bounty. Why would I need to get locked up on sight? I think I can lock myself up perfectly fine.
"Listen, I know that look your giving me, and I am sorry but yes you still count as a prisoner. Now get in." He gestured inside.
I get it. I carried on in and turned fully around and just stared as he shut my cell door and locked it from the outside.
"Goodnight."
"Night." I said to him.
All the guards exited from the front of the cells and headed towards the security center and made their way inside. Except Dynam. He walked slowly and then stopped before entering. He glanced back at all the cells before the screaming the following words, "Lights out!" And then walking in as the hall lights vanished from sight and the world became dark.
The night lasted longer than I wanted it to and I stayed awake lying there. Staring at the ceiling. Waiting for the lights to shine on.
Eventually when morning rose, I was still awake and exhausted but was forced up by a retrieving voice from the end of my cell on the other side of the door. This time a guard I had never met before.
"Yeah?" I questioned him, wondering why he was standing outside my cell.
"We're your body guards. Since you are of great importance to Reckt, and there is a large threat going around concerning you. We will be surrounding you all day for your shift as block ruler."
Apparently Reckt and Dynam were really taking me in as one of their own. I finally felt appreciated.
"Alright, thanks guys. I'll be out in a second." I told them, jumping out of bed and throwing on a t shirt that had been laying beside me. It got hot in the middle of the night last night which usually never happens so I decided to take it off. Anyways, once that was done the guards unlocked the cell and escorted me to the cafeteria.
Guns by their sides, riot shields on their backs, I felt completely safe around these guys. I saw many prisoners stumbling across the floor staring me down. They wanted me dead more than anyone else. Actually, I take that back. The Benjamin Bros wanted me dead more than anyone else. I sat down at one of the tables in the far back of the room and just watched everyone else. The several other guards gathered around me and remained standing. I took a deep breath and continued watching. I was going to be here for a while.
I remained seated there for most of the day and watched Dynam come in from the rec center. He made his way over to me and stopped.
"I didn't know Reckt gave you body guards." He observed.
"I didn't either until this morning and they were outside my door."
"Well, hopefully, we can get this bounty problem out of the way in the next day or two. Until then, you keep these guys by your side." He said laughing, pointing at the guards, then making his way back to the security center.
Finally after endless hours upon hours of pure sitting. The group of guards notified me it was time to leave. They escorted me back the long hallway and dropped me off at my cell. But they stood there for a while.
"You guys can go now." I told them. But they didn't listen, they still just stood there. Watching me. And then I finally understood what was going on. "You don't work for Reckt do you?" I asked them softly.
"No, we do. But at the moment, we're being paid by someone else." They stated as the two Benjamin Bros stumbled on through the door and smiled at me, revealing their sharp teeth and horrible breath.
I really didn't know what to say, I backed up the farthest I could until I bumped into my wall.
"Now wait! Just a second!" I was talking to the Benjamin Bros at this point, "We're all under lock down! Every prisoner has to have on sight lock down with a guard! Including you two!"
One of the guards broke into the conversation, "We're the ones that lock them up. They're perfectly fine. Everyone else thinks they're locked away right now."
I couldn't stop breathing and the pressure was building up inside me and I wanted to scream but I didn't have enough energy to do so. And before I knew it, I heard Dynam from the halls.
"Lights out!"
Then darkness.
