I headed to the cafeteria and looked back to see 304 making his way somewhere else. I got finally got there in time for Reckt and Dynam not to freak out on me like they always do. I sat at one of the far tables and watched the prisoners as they came, got their food, ate, and left. At some point in the day around noon, one of the prisoners walked up to me, I had never seen them before in my life and what was confusing about it was that he had Dynam standing right next to him.
"Is there a problem?" I asked towards Dynam. I felt like I should be ignoring and avoiding all eye contact with the other guy whoever he was. No matter the situation, I was better than him. I was a higher authority than him, I caught a glance at his crime rating which was 224. My reputation was even higher than his. This guy was a scrub and had no business standing next to Dynam. In order for him to do that, he must have one hell of a story on how he gained Dynam's respect.
"What are you doing here?" Dynam asked me. I looked at him then looked at where I was. Duh, the cafeteria. Why wouldn't I be here? This was my job. I worked for Reckt and Dynam, he should know this was my block.
"I'm sorry, I'm not quite understanding what this is about. This is my block. I'm supposed to be here."
"Nope. Not anymore. At least, not since this morning. Reckt assigned a block leader for the cafeteria. 350 (me), meet 224."
I jumped down from one of the tables I was sitting on with my feet on the seats. "Who the hell is this bitch? And why's he taking my block?"
Dynam put his hand on my chest and pushed me back a foot to explain. "Well, his name is Allice. He's a newcomer and Reckt noticed his potential. But don't get all upset! This just means you get promoted."
"Promoted?" I questioned.
"Yep, promoted. Ya see," he put his arm around me and walked me away from the cafeteria while Allice or whatever his name was took my seat. Dynam kept talking, "when the Benjamin Bros put a bounty on you. And all those guards took their side. Reckt had to get rid of those guards. One of those guards had a huge responsibility. One that you get the pleasure of trying for a day or two. Who knows, if you're good, maybe it'll become permanent." He began escorting me down to the security center. He swiped his card and let us both in quickly. He led me to the backroom where Reckt and I always used to meet. Reckt sat at a table that laid dead center in the room. Dynam gave me a little shove and shut the door behind me, locking Reckt and I in here by ourselves. I could already tell this wasn't going to be good.
"Please sit down." She implied, signaling towards the chair.
"What is this about?" I asked her.
"I figured Dynam would have filled you in on the details by now."
"Well, yeah, he did. But I still don't know what I'll be doing now."
"And that's why you're here. So we can talk. Recently, because of you, I had to let go of many guards. One of those guards had a very important job."
"Yes, this is the same stuff Dynam told me."
"Okay, well I don't know how to say this but we have a prisoner in this building that has been under lock down for a long time. He stays in a small room and is allowed no access to the outside like you guys do. He's not allowed in the cafeteria, he's not allowed in the rec center, he's not allowed to leave his cell. He stays there constantly forever. And we usually have someone bring him food from the cafeteria, but we recently fired the man who did it. So now I'm offering the job to you. What do you say?"
I did want to bring lunch to him. Maybe get to know him a little bit, find out the secret behind all of this, about why he's in there. But at the same time, I still want my job out there. This is totally going to screw up my reputation because now people are going to think they can just come in here and take my job right from underneath my feet. Well that's not how it's supposed to be. I'm supposed to be the one running things around here, people are supposed to be scared of me. I doubt they are even more. I bet you that stupid Allice is sitting down chatting with the other prisoners and laughing when they hear my name. Boy I want to march right down there and beat the living piss out of him. But I won't. No. Like 304 says a lot, we need to be on Reckt and Dynam's side. Whether that included losing some rep here and there.
"I'll do it." I said with a straight look, I wanted the job, and didn't want it at the same time. There was only one way I could make this work for me. Reckt told me I start tomorrow and then I quickly hurried out of the security center and marched my way down there like I said I would.
"Oh, hey 350, is there a problem?" Allice asked me as I came up fast but before he knew it he was knocked on the ground by my fist in his face. He held his head as it started to bruise right away. I grabbed him by the shirt and pulled him up as other prisoners gathered around.
"Let me tell you something! This used to be my job! And as of right now, it still is! If you see anything suspicious at all, you don't go to Reckt, you don't go to Dynam, you come straight to me. Got it!?" I asked him, then everyone else went silent.
He gulped down the remaining dry and warm spit he had in his mouth and replied, "Got it."
I let go of his shirt and he fell back to the ground staring up at me as the others started to disperse. I stuck my arm out so he could grab it and climb up. He did indeed and brushed the dust off his clothes.
"I hope we didn't get off on the wrong foot." He stated.
"Just do what I say, or I'm gonna break your foot. I had a good thing going here until you came into the picture. You report to me now. Then I'll tell you if it's okay to run by Reckt or Dynam." I stopped talking when 304 ran up.
"Everything alright here? Heard there was a fight going on." 304 asked, looking back and forth between Allice and I.
"No, not anymore," I told 304 then kept on going, "304, meet Allice. Allice meet 304. 304 is also someone you can trust with any information. So let me change that list again. You tell me first. If you can't find me then find 304 and tell him. If you can't find 304 or me, then you keep that information to your self until you DO, find us. Understand?"
"Yes 350."
